Parthiv Patel Reflects on Virat And RCB’s Colorful Journey

India

RCB has always been an unpredictable but interesting team in the IPL, with interesting and hard-fought knocks, record-breaking performances, and unity among the players. Yes, RCB is one of the most talented teams and has reached the playoff stage several times. However, they have never won the IPL trophy. Recently, Parthiv Patel, who is a former player of the team, talked about the franchise, when he was a guest on the Cyrus Says Podcast.

Many players have been part and parcel of the RCB team, and Parthiv Patel, who was with the team for four years, had a lot to say. He said that the team’s management and strategy tended to rely on specific talented players rather than the team as a whole. To this end, Parthiv Patel attributed this factor to having contributed to their poor performance, especially during the fateful moments. He stated:

I played for RCB for four years, and in my opinion, there has never been a team-first mentality. There is only me, myself, and when people leave this team, they will have the same thing to say.

According to Parthiv Patel, the focus and extra favor given to star players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle made the team focus more on the fame of one or two players than the team culture.

Speaking about the strengths of the team, Parthiv Patel claimed that it was all about Kohli, de Villiers, and Gayle when he was with the team, while those three got special pampering, and the deteriorating team culture was noticeable when they performed, which is why they never won the trophies.

Organizational Culture of a Sports Team

In Parthiv Patel’s view, RCB conserved serious clichés simply because their team did not have a proper culture despite possessing some of the best-known cricketers in the IPL. He claims that, possibly, better emphasis on the construction of the team could have generated different results.

The team culture was not good enough, mainly due to which RCB has never won an IPL trophy in their 17-year journey.

 RCB’s Consistent Performance

As for RCB, they have not won the IPL trophy, but they have always been title contenders for the IPL team, and they have many times come to the playoffs. Although they are not exceptional, this consistent performance means that their strategy may not be entirely useless. Nevertheless, insights given by Parthiv Patel revealed that a change-oriented approach to optimizing team spirit may help improve their condition.

It must be said that as RCB plans for future IPL seasons, they have such reflections and critiques of former players such as Parthiv Patel to guide them. Maybe paying equal attention to both the star players and the team’s identity and unity could be the answer to a long title spell without the cup.

As a new segment of the year is around the corner, it is worth knowing how the team will remold its policies and structures to construct a more integral and stronger team.

With these thoughts, the crux of the problem in RCB was highlighted by Patel, not just in his statistics but in his perception of the workings of the team and the role culture plays in a team. These could be useful to RCB as it goes on with its effort to attain its first IPL trophy; the team could upscale into a better performance-creation balanced environment.
