Victor Osimhen is one of the top footballers in the world at the moment, representing both club and country at an elite level. He is a talented Nigerian soccer player who, at just 25 years old, has numerous years ahead of him to shine on the big stage—and could do so soon at Paris Saint-Germain.
As a striker for Napoli and the Nigerian national team, he has drawn attention this past year due to his incredible appearances for both club in Serie A and country in international competitions. But it seems as though Victor Osimhen could be leaving the Italian club for greener pastures. Where is he headed next going into the 2024-2025 season?
Victor Osimhen Could Go to Paris Saint-Germain
Osimhen could be leaving Italy in just a few days to settle into his new life in Paris, France. He has signed a deal with the Ligue 1 side in Paris to take over the empty spot left behind by Kylian Mbappe, the speedy French winger who went to Real Madrid in La Liga in Spain just a few days ago.
Paris Saint-Germain will be eager to find another attacker with the same pace, tenacity, and ruthlessness that Mbappe had — and Osimhen could be just the one. He is an electric and technical player who can take defenders on 1v1 and score crucial goals. Osimhen is keen on joining Paris Saint-Germain and is open to discussing the deal further and moving to France. The club needs to make the deal and get it over the line with the Italian club, Napoli.
Last season, Osimhen made 25 appearances for Napoli and scored fifteen goals, an impressive feat for a player in any league. But, the year before, he made 32 appearances and scored a whopping 26 goals, and provided four assists — one of the best statistical lines of any player in the entire year.
Osimhen started his playing career at the youth level with the Ultimate Strikers Academy, soon moving to VfL Wolfsburg in 2017 when he was 19 years old. He impressed at the first-team level and made appearances for Charleroi on loan during the second season, amassing 25 appearances and scoring 12 goals.
Due to his impressive loan spell, he signed for Lille in 2019, where he made 27 appearances and scored 13 goals. Scoring almost one goal every two games, he caught the attention of Napoli, where he has gone on to play more than 100 games for the club since his signing in 2020. And Paris Saint-Germain has taken notice of his goal-scoring abilities.
Paris Saint-Germain Last Year
Last season, Paris Saint-Germain thrived off of Kylian Mbappe’s goal-scoring prowess. They ended the league season in first place by nine points, beating Monaco and Breast easily. They scored 81 goals throughout the season, 13 more than the second-place team, and only suffered 33 goals against.
This year, they hope to win Ligue 1 again and make it into the UWCL to win the final trophy. They lost to Dortmund in the semifinal of the Champions League last year after suffering a 1-0 loss at home and a 1-0 loss away, shocking fans and viewers worldwide. This season, they hope to make it to the UWCL final with their new player, Osimhen.
Plus, they need to win the French Cup for another year running. Last season, they beat Lyon 2-1 in a dramatic final after losing in the semis of the Champions League. If they can get the deal over the line, they may miss Mbappe just a little bit less than anticipated.
