Paris Saint-Germain might have a harder time than they had initially thought capturing the Liverpool target for their team next year. PSG in Ligue 1 should have no issue getting some of the top players in the world, as they consistently beat other teams in their domestic league and make it to the latter stages of the Champions League every season.
But, they are currently in contention with Liverpool FC to purchase one of the most promising players from Benfica – although, they are not letting him go without the new team paying a hefty sum.
Paris Saint-Germain Might Have to Pay Millions for New Player
PSG is extremely interested in a player who Liverpool also has their eye on for the 2024-2025 Premier League season. With the window open for the summer, teams are quickly buying and loaning players every day to make sure they have their squad set for next year and they can begin to work together in pre-season.
Speculation is currently swirling around the Prem and France on whether Arne Slot, the new Reds’ manager, will also fight for the player that PSG wants so badly.
Liverpool is currently pursuing Leny Yoro, although the Red Devils could put up a higher fee than Liverpool to purchase the man for their squad. Another time in contention for Yoro is Real Madrid, the Spanish La Liga giants who just won the Champions League with ease.
As far as Paris Saint-Germain goes, they have to contend with Liverpool who also want their target man – Joao Neves.
The Benfica midfielder is a young, talented, and energetic player who makes a huge difference on the pitch. He is gifted, technical, and wise beyond his years, making him a great purchase for any team that wants to see a teenager develop within their senior team.
Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert in the footballing world has provided updates on the current matter.
‘Paris Saint-Germain are showing concrete interest in Joao Neves, one of the players high on the shortlist…PSG like him…Arsenal and Man United monitored him for months. But Benfica insists on the $120 million release clause.’
For any player, that is a ton of money – especially for a young teenager who has yet to prove himself with multiple seasons in these senior teams.
Joao Neves at Benfica
Paris Saint-Germain could afford the release clause, but they need to decide if this player is worth the money. Joao Neves is a promising 19-year-old who is a defensive midfielder for Benfica, showing promise as a holding central player who can distribute the ball into tight areas and win crunching tackles.
He started his career at the Benfica academy team in 2016 and has since gone on to make appearances for the Benfica B team and senior team beginning in 2022. Since his first showing for the full squad, he has made more than 50 appearances for the team and scored four goals.
Neves also has been capped for the underage Portuguese national teams, as well as receiving his first call-up for the Portugal senior team in 2023.
Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to bolster their ranks in the midfield heading forward. They already need someone to replace Mbappe, who goes to Real Madrid, and they want a midfielder who can play with the likes of Dembele, Vitinha, and Achraf Hakimi in the defense. Joao Neves would be a great linking player for the strikers, like Dembele and Barcola, and the back line, like Beraldo and Marquinhos.
