The long-awaited Paris 2024 Olympics finally starts this Thursday, featuring the best national teams from around the world. The groups and knockout schedules have been released so fans across the globe can tune in to cheer on their respective team.
Keep reading to see who to cheer for during every single game of the Paris 2024 Olympics!
Men’s Paris 2024 Olympics Schedule
The first games for the men’s teams for the Paris 2024 Olympics take place on July 25 featuring various teams.
Group A is a tough group to get out of, featuring the hosts, France, the United States, Guinea, and New Zealand. Although previously we would have thought that the U.S. would easily get out of this group and progress to the next round, their shocking exit in the Copa America says otherwise.
Group B features Argentina, Morocco, Iraq, and Ukraine. This is one of the ‘easiest’ groups, but Morocco has shown in last year’s tournament that they are underdogs who can come from behind and win. Plus, Argentina just won the Copa America, so they are feeling very confident — but may not have Messi on their side.
Group C features Uzbekistan, Spain, Egypt, and the Dominican Republic. Spain is the clear favorite of this group, featuring big names like Lamine Yamal, who captured the hearts of viewers during the most recent Euro championship.
Group D has Japan, Paraguay, Mali, and Israel. This interesting mixture of teams will showcase various playing styles with the Japanese team focusing on quick passes and technical ability. Israel features athleticism and counter-attacking styles of play.
After the knockout stages, the men’s bronze medal match will held on August 8, featuring runner-up 29 and runner-up 30.
The men’s gold medal match is held on August 9, the following day, between winner 29 and winner 30.
Women’s Paris 2024 Olympic Schedule
The Paris 2024 Olympics for the women’s national teams comes off the back of an exciting Women’s World Cup last year in Australia and New Zealand.
Group A for the women’s side features Canada, New Zealand, France, and Colombia. France was able to be in the first group for both competitions since they are the host country, arguably giving them a slight advantage. However, with Canada ranked one of the best in the world, and New Zealand scoring in the past World Cup, this is a tough draw.
Group B features the USA, Zambia, Germany, and Australia. We will have to wait and see if Emma Hayes can get her team out of the group stage sans Alex Morgan. Gustavsson will have to work on Australia progressing out of the same group, relying heavily on players like Kerr and Gorry.
Group C features Spain, Japan, Nigeria, and Brazil. In the past, we would have counted out Nigeria and Brazil, but competitions like the Women’s World Cup in Australia last year have shown us just how much the rest of the world has progressed in women’s football. Nigerian players like Oshoala and Ebi seriously impressed in that competition.
The third-place match for the women’s sides for the Paris 2024 Olympics will be held on August 9 before the men’s gold medal match, featuring runner-up 23 and runner-up 24. The final game for the women’s teams will be held on August 10, featuring winner 23 and winner 24.
We can’t wait to tune in and watch every single game of the Paris 2024 Olympics this year. Check out The Nine Network in Australia, NBC, and USA Network in the United States, and Eurosport and Discovery in Europe to see the games and highlights.
