Guess what? Imad Wasim shocks his fans with a surprise move!
Pakistani cricketer Imad Wasim dropped a bombshell on Saturday. He’s coming out of retirement just in time for the ICC T20I World Cup 2024. Yeah, you heard that right! He’s making himself available for the Twenty20 format once again.
The seasoned player decided to rethink his retirement plans after meeting with officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“I am happy to announce that under meeting PCB officials, I have reconsidered my retirement and am delighted to declare my availability for Pakistan cricket in T20i format leading up to ICC T20i World Cup 2024,” he made this announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Imad expressed his gratitude to the PCB for believing in him and promised to give his all to make his country proud.
‘Pakistan comes first,’ he added.
Imad Wasim’s Recent Heroics in the PSL 2024
Imad was part of the victorious Islamabad United team, led by Shadab Khan. In fact, he was named the Player of the Match in the final showdown against Multan Sultans. His stellar all-round performance sealed the deal for Islamabad United in the PSL 9 final held on Saturday and Monday.
He had taken a fifer (5/23) in the PSL final as Islamabad grabbed the title for the first time since 2018.
Shadab Khan, captain of Islamabad United, had this to say:
‘I want to, in fact, when Imad made the decision, I had also talked to him that I didn’t want him to leave. Because Pakistan needs players like him. God willing, if there is a discussion with him, hopefully, he will come back because the World Cup is approaching and the way he is performing and his experience in CPL (Caribbean Premier League), Pakistan definitely needs him.’
Imad, who made his international debut back in May 2015, has been a standout performer due to his versatility on the field.
As a left-handed middle-order batsman and a top-notch left-arm spinner, Imad has represented Pakistan in 55 one-day internationals and 66 Twenty20 internationals.
He’s racked up 986 runs in ODIs and 486 in T20Is. Not to mention, he’s taken 44 wickets in ODIs and 65 in the shorter format.
