Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie were named following Pakistan’s lackluster performance in the 50-over World Cup the previous year. Pakistan’s coaching staff underwent a major restructuring following their elimination from the competition.
All of the coaches were released from their positions, including head coach Grant Bradburn, batting coach Andrew Puttick, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and team director Mickey Arthur. Pakistan experimented with captaincy responsibilities in conjunction with coaching changes. They designated Shan Masood as the Test captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi as the white-ball captain, respectively.
During Pakistan’s Australian tour, Muhammad Hafeez was briefly appointed as a mentor, but additional leadership changes were necessary due to the team’s poor performance. The Patriots finally chose Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie as their new coaching team.
Although they had previously considered hiring other well-known prospects, including Matthew Hayden and Shane Watson, the board feels that Kirsten and Gillespie are the best people to guide Pakistan cricket, especially in a new era of greatness. Both have proven track records and depth of experience.
