Owen Hargreaves Insists Liverpool will Struggle to Win the League

Owen Hargreaves makes strong comments on Liverpool's title chances

Owen Hargreaves has given his opinion about Liverpool’s performance this season. He spoke specifically about how the Reds have been winning games. However, he believes they still have a lot of work to do, despite being top of the table. Due to the fixtures and other reasons.

Owen Hargreaves believes Liverpool’s run of form has been due to some individual brilliance of certain team members. He however mentioned one in the name of Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutchman has been stellar for both club and country. Owen Hargreaves believes if the Dutchman drops in form or gets injured the Reds might have a lot of challenges to face if they wanna contest. The Former Manchester United star made it clear that Liverpool will need a replacement for him if they want to contend for the title.

The Dutchman was bought from Bayern Munich under Jurgen Klopp’s time. His player profile was considered as a pure 6. Moreover, during his time at Bayern Munich, Tuchel who was in charge then, believed he was too lazy to function in the role. At Liverpool Jurgen Klopp allowed the Dutchman to move freely in a position he wanted in the midfield, and at the end, the Dutchman started functioning upfront.

However, there were injuries, inconsistency, and form loss at some point. Now under Arne Slot, it has been different. His Coach and also fellow Compatriot chose to use him as a double pivot, being the main Defensive Midfielder. So far this season Gravenberch has been one of Liverpool’s best players. Giving energy to the team’s midfield, winning duels, and helping the team initiate a vibrant attack. Despite all this Owen Hargreaves still believes the Club will need a replacement in the advent of injury or form loss.

Owen Hargreaves on Gravenberch

The Former Manchester United man praised the Liverpool star for his red-hot form and also his display that has been helping the club so far this season. But he believes there’s still more needed.

He said: “He is 190cm. He is 22 years old. He has got everything. But he is not a specialist defensive midfield player. There is a difference. I think he is a brilliant midfield player, he is a box-to-box [player], depending on who you play. But I think in a big game, in a one-off game, to go and win the Premier League or the Champions League, I think you need a specialist. Liverpool showed that with Fabinho or Manchester City showed that with Rodri.”

The Ex-United star continued his view on the Dutchman. He expressed his skepticism on Gravenberch continuing his hot form. He believes that in January the Reds will still be in need of another addition in his position in case of form loss or injury.

He said: “I still think they will address his position. But credit Gravenberch, he has grabbed his chance and that’s all you need. That’s what you need as a player, you need someone to trust you and he has proven it. I still think tougher tests will come. I love what he is doing, but I still think they will go and get somebody.”
