The Olympic final match for the men’s soccer competition in Paris, France, is surely going to be one to watch. Spain beat Morocco in a fantastic come-behind victory to make it to the gold medal round and see if they could bring home some hardware to their home country. Just like last year in the Women’s World Cup, when Spain won the competition held in Australia and NZ, the men’s team are now trying to bring glory to their country.
But, they will have to take on a challenging France team to earn the gold medal. That will be even harder, considering the Les Bleus are the home team and playing in front of thousands of their very own fans. But, with Spain’s resounding victory over Morocco, they might be sky-high with confidence and ability as they head into the final match.
Spain vs. Morocco – How It Happened
Morocco scored first in the semifinal match against Spain, shocking fans and leaving people to wonder if the African nation could upset the European footballing powerhouse and make it to the gold medal match. However, Sanchez had something different in mind. The substitute came off the bench and made a true ‘super sub’ impact as he scored in the 85th minute to send his team to the final match.
Rahimi for Morocco scored from a spot kick in the 37th minute, sending the team up 1-0 as they headed into the locker rooms at halftime. There was no doubt that both teams had rousing pep talks to try and come out the victor in such a big game, but it seems as though the Spanish team toko it a little more to heart.
Tight Game Throughout
The game was tight between the two sides in the first twenty minutes of the second half, but the Catalan side had a breakthrough in the 65th minute when Lopez hit a powerful left-footed striker into the side netting past the diving keeper. Now, with it being 1-1, both teams had to push for a second goal in the remaining 25 minutes of play.
Spain came out the victor with the substitute’s key goal, sending Morocco home after a valiant showing in the Olympics. For Morocco, they will remember another semifinal loss in an international competition, as they made it to the semifinals of the World Cup in 2022.
Fortunately for Morocco, they have a great point of view about the situation. Although they will not be in the Olympics finals match, they are still fighting for a medal for their country.
“We were really motivated today to play in the final. What has happened has happened,” Morocco coach Tarik Sektioui said. “And now we must be focused on the next game. There is a medal to be won. That’s not nothing for us. It’s very important for us that we return to Morocco from this tournament with a medal.”
Olympics Finals Match
The final game will take place on August 9th, with France facing off against Spain in the final game of the Olympics. The bronze medal match was one day earlier, featuring Egypt against Morocco to see which country brought home the third-place prize in the Olympics. No matter what, all teams can be happy and proud of how they have represented their country so far.
For the Olympics final game, make sure to keep an eye on Mateta from France, the goal scorer who netted two against Egypt. Plus, Olise from Crystal Palace has done exceptionally well this Olympics, scoring the third goal for France in their last victory. For Spain, key players like Carvajal, Jesus Navas, Merino, Fabian Ruiz, Olmo, Rodri, Pedri, and Alvaro Morata, who have dozens of caps for their team, will play a huge role in the final game.
