Michael Olise’s Shock Bayern Munich Move

Michael Olise was one of the most promising young players for Crystal Palace this past season, taking players on 1v1 on the dribble, scoring key goals, and providing assists for his teammates during tough moments in the game. He stood out in the Premier League, arguably the best league in the world, and even earned a spot on the England team under Southgate’s leadership.

Now, he is going to be taking his talents elsewhere. Not only is Olise not returning to his home country of England, but he is giving up the gray skies and the lush green grass for the city of Bayern Munich.

Olise had the world at his feet in England — he could stay at Crystal Palace, where he was the big man on the team and getting consistent playing time, or even consider going to Manchester United for a lucrative transfer. Instead, he chose to make a drastic move in his career by going to the Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich, for the 2024-2025 season.

Going to Germany seemed to be high on Olise’s list of what to do next year to further his career, as he just signed a deal with Bayern to join Harry Kane on the team and see if they can win the league and make the Champions League final in the 2024-2025 season. He completed the expensive $65+ million move this past Sunday, surprising United in putting pen to paper with the German side.

Last season in the Premier League, Olise impressed by standing out with a lackluster Crystal Palace side who struggled to find consistency. Even though Palace is never one to break into the top six or seven in the PL, Olise helped them make the top ten and well safe of the relegation zone with his ten goals and six assists.

Olise began his footballing career at Arsenal in 2009, moving on to Chelsea, Manchester City, and Reading youth academies to progress into a senior squad. In 2019, he moved up the ranks to REading’s full side, making an impressive 67 appearances and scoring seven goals between 2019 and 2021 — when he was just 18 years old.

After impressing at such a young age, Crystal Palace decided to take a chance on the younger. He played at Palace for three seasons between 2021-2024, making 82 appearances and scoring 14 times during his time in South London.

Bayern Munich Looking Forward

Bayern Munich finished in third place last year in the Bundesliga, falling behind VfB Stuttgart and Leverkusen to end in the top three — but missed out on the coveted first-place trophy. They were a whopping 18 poison behind the league leaders, showing they need to score more goals and bolster their defense if they hope to win the Bundesliga in the 2024-2025 season.

Signing Olise can be great for a team that needs to score more goals and whip more crosses into the box. If Olise can link up well with other attackers, like Kane up top, Muller, Musiala, and Davies, he can make an instant impact for the German team. Other players, like Goretzka, Pavlovic, and Kimmich will have to work hard in the midfield to get Olise the ball on the wing so he can show his magic.

Bayern Munich begin the Bundesliga with an away game against Duren — let’s hope they can earn three points to start the season off on the right note.
