Oakland Athletics Offense Explodes In Victory

Oakland Athletics Brent Rooker is having a great 2024 season.

The Oakland Athletics offense had a game to remember at home on Tuesday night against the Houston Astros. They defeated the Astros 8-2 thanks to five home runs. Oakland scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. They proceeded to then score in innings 3-7. Designated Hitter Brent Rooker, Right Fielder Lawrence Butler, First Baseman Seth Brown, Second Baseman Zack Gelof, and Catcher Shea Langeliers all went deep in last night’s victory.

Oakland’s offense is no stranger to offensive explosions as they had 18, 19, and 20 run games earlier this season.  Starting Pitcher Osvaldo Bido took advantage of a great performance by his offense and surrendered one earned run over five innings of work. Houston had nine hits on Tuesday night, but the bullpen of the Oakland Athletics was able to get out of trouble and clinch the victory. Will the offense of the Oakland Athletics be able to keep up this hot streak over the rest of their games this week?

Oakland Athletics Season Summary

It has been another tough season for the Athletics(41-62). They are in last place in the American League West and have the fourth-worst record in Major League Baseball. Oakland’s offense has not been good this season. They are 27th in batting average, fourth in home runs, and 18th in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Brent Rooker who leads the club in every important offensive category. Rooker has been one of the few bright spots on the 2024 Oakland Athletics. He is top 20 in the league in batting average and top 10 in home runs, RBI, and OPS.

Oakland’s pitching staff has also not been good this season. They are 23rd in ERA, 27th in opposing batting average, and 27th in WHIP. Their pitching staff is led by Starting Pitcher JP Sears. He leads the team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. Closer Mason Miller has pitched well this year and was on a historic run earlier in the year but has not had much of an opportunity to pitch in high-leverage situations. Miller is rumored to be on the trading block with the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline less than a week away.

Athletics Upcoming Schedule

Oakland finishes up their series with the Houston Astros this afternoon. They begin a four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels on the road tomorrow. This is expected to be the last season the Athletics will call Oakland home as they are expected to move to Sacramento, California following the conclusion of the 2024 season. The team looks to begin playing in Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2028 MLB season.

The Oakland Athletics are on their way to missing the MLB Playoffs for the fourth straight season. Oakland is looking to avoid their third consecutive season of 100+ losses. The Athletics offense has shown glimpses this season but has lacked the consistency to be a true threat in the American League. Oakland has been a .500 team this season within the friendly confines of the Oakland Coliseum but has been a terrible team away from home.

Oakland has a few key pieces the rest of the league will look to acquire at the upcoming trade deadline. It is tough to predict how the Oakland Athletics will look a week from now, but Tuesday night was yet another reminder the Oakland roster is not completely devoid of talent.
