Nuri Sahin ‘Madrid or Liverpool Would be Cool’ on the UCL Draw

Nuri Sahin has spoken about his interest in the UEFA Champions League draw. The Dortmund manager said he wouldn’t mind playing against Liverpool and Real Madrid, the two clubs he had played for in the past. After the draw was made, Borrusia Dortmund was given Madrid as part of the eight teams they’ll face.

Nuri Sahin became Dortmund’s Coach after Edin Terzic resigned at the end of the season. Terzic had left the job after Dortmund lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. The loss was a painful one for the Dortmund fans, as it will be send UCL final they’ve progressed to and also lost. The first was in 2013 against Jurgen Klopp, now the second was Real Madrid. The ex-player took the job of Dortmund’s manager and will be hoping to keep pushing the German side towards the path of greatness.

Nuri Sahin was asked about the UCL draw, earlier today during a conference and he said: “Real or Liverpool would be cool.”

A few hours later the Draw was made the former Real Madrid and Liverpool star got his wish as Borrusia Dortmund was given Real Madrid. The draw will be an opportunity for the German side to get revenge for the loss at the final. However, it might get more difficult as Real Madrid have also updated their team. Nonetheless, Nurin Sahin will hope his team can pull off a shocker. Dortmund were draw against: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Celtic, Bologna, Shakhtar Donesk, Club Brugge, Sturm Graz, Dinamo Zagreb.

Nurin Sahin on the Team’s Strategy

The 35-year-old man spoke about his team’s new tactics this season ahead of their game against Weder Bremen. He said: “Even if you don’t have a target player, the half-space players and the far-side wingers need to get into the box; that’s something we’re working on. It’s about box occupation, short and deep runs, all of that plays a role. We’re training it, but it’s clear that we’re not at the end of our development yet.”

He continued that he aims to develop the team in the aspect of ball-keeping and possession dominance. He said: “I’ve only had the guys together for a few weeks, and everything has to settle in. We want to develop to the point where we can display as much dominance as possible.”

Nuri Sahin on Injuries and Fit Players

The Dortmund manager spoke about the fitness issues battling some few players in the team. He spoke specifically about their newly signed prolific striker, Serhou Guirassy. He said: “It’s already good that we’re getting crosses into the box. The game changes with a player like Serhou. When he’s there, it’s a completely different impact.”

Nuri Sahin also spoke about other players. He said: “I would’ve loved to see Jule and Niki in the squad.” He’s incredibly pleased with their performances. “If these lads keep delivering top-notch performances, they’ll be back,”
