Not 1, Not 2, But 3 Super Overs To Set World Record: Maharaja T20

Not 1, Not 2, But 3 Super Overs To Set World Record: Maharaja T20 Trophy

In the current Maharaja T20 Trophy season, history was made when the Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers encounter saw the first-ever triple super over in T20 cricket history. Hubli Tigers scored 164 runs when they were called to bat. Mayank Agarwal, the captain, scored fifty runs. But the Blasters could only tie the score after being run out on the final ball.

In the opening Super Over, Agarwal went out to bat again after the scores were knotted for the first time. Nevertheless, the Blasters scored ten runs before he was removed for a golden duck. Manish Pandey, the captain of the Hubli Tigers, hit a vital six to square the match once more while they were chasing ten runs to win, forcing a Super Over. In the second Super Over, eight runs are scored by either side. As a result, the match reached its third Super.

Manvanth Wins Super Over

Manvanth Kumar struck two fours in the crucial Super Over, helping Hubli Tigers chase down a target of 13. Lavish Kaushal of Bengaluru took his first five-wicket haul of the year earlier in the day, limiting the Hubli Tigers to 164/10. Mayank Agarawal’s fifty-four-year career would likewise be in vain. The Bengaluru Blasters lost Chethan LR to Vidwath Kaverappa in the opening over while chasing 165.

Niranjan Naik, batting third, displayed intent by hitting four boundaries, including a six, but Kaverappa saw to it that Naik was out of there in the fifth over. In the powerplay, Mayank Agarwal struck five boundaries, but the Bengaluru Blasters could not muster up any support; in the sixth over, Manvanth Kumar removed Shubhang Hegde for a duck, and the Blasters ended the phase at 48/3.

The Bengaluru Blasters were in trouble at 96/5 in 13.2 overs when Mayank Agarwal was caught behind off the bowling of Manvanth Kumar, just after he had reached his half-century in 29 balls with eight fours. Suraj Ahuja (26), and Anirudha Joshi (17) teamed for 27 rapid runs. Joshi was caught by Manvanth Kumar after Ahuja was out in the 17th over. Naveen MG provided the final touches with three boundaries and a six in his 11-ball knock, but he was removed by Kumar LR in the 19th over, requiring 30 runs off 18 balls.

Kranthi Kumar was run out to end the innings with a draw, but Bengaluru Blasters still needed one run off the final ball of the innings. Mohd. Taha got the Hubli innings a head start by hitting two sixes and two fours off Santok Singh in the third over to surge to 31 runs in 14 balls after Thippa Reddy (7) fell early in the first innings. Taha was selected by Lavish Kaushal in the fifth over, as the Hubli Tigers ended their powerplay at 53/2.

In his opening super over, Shubhang Hegde made a breakthrough by taking out KL Shrijith (9) and Karthikeya KP (13), who was Lavish Kaushal’s second wicket of the evening. With a partnership of 57 runs in 40 balls, Manish Pandey (33) and Aneeshwar Gautam (30) kept the innings alive during the middle overs. But Lavish Kaushal would dismiss both batters in the 16th over, leaving the Hubli Tigers at 131/6.

Manvanth Kumar, who was run out on the final ball of the innings, had a brilliant effort in the dying overs, scoring 28 runs in his 15-ball knock. The wickets had fallen all around him, with Kranthi Kumar taking care of KC Cariappa and Adarsh Prajwal in the 17th over, and Lavish Kaushal grabbing his fifth wicket via Kumar LR to restrict Hubli Tigers to 164/10. Despite hard efforts by both teams, the match was concluded in the third Super Over. This clash made a world record in cricket history.
