Manchester City are not planning a transfer spree for this window. They believe the squad is equipped enough to defend the premier league title for the coming season. The Premier League champions are willing to head into the new season with the same group of players. The record four consecutive premier league holders have no plans to alter their squad. Unless a player requests to be transferred, according to sources.
No Plans to Expand the Squad Unless a Player Leaves
Manchester City has no plan to bloat their squad over the summer. However major doubts are hovering over several key players like Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, and Ederson. And City bosses have made their plans known about their transfer business this summer.
The possibility of Pep Guardiola starting the new season with the same squad is relatively feasible. However, the City bosses have stated that if their valuation of a particular player is met and the said player asks to leave, then such player will be sold. Only then will another player be brought in as a replacement.
Manchester City Possible Out-Goings
Moves for Kalvin Phillips and Joao Cancelo have been earmarked by City after their loan spells at West Ham and Barcelona respectively.
A permanent transfer for Phillips and Cancelo will be ideal, however, City is prepared to accept lucrative loan offers. And in both players’ cases, a replacement is not needed as they weren’t fully part of the team. With a host of clubs showing interest, Everton has reportedly shown concrete interest in English international Kalvin Phillips.
According to sources, at the time of publishing, Ederson, Silva, and De Bruyne have not asked to leave the Etihad.
Kevin De Bruyne and Saudi Arabia Links
The Manchester City midfielder earlier in the month refused to rule out a move to the middle. The City star, in an interview, refused to close the door to a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
The Belgium international while speaking to the media, talked about his future and life after Euro 2024. De Bruyne speaking said:
“For Michele [his wife], an exotic adventure is fine. These are also conversations that we are constantly having as a family.”
Speaking on his City Contract he said.
“I still have one year left on my contract, so I have to think about what could happen. My eldest son is now eight years-old and knows nothing outside England. And he also asks how long I will play for City. Once the time comes we will have to deal with it in a certain way.”
De Bruyne who turns 33 at the end of the season added on a potential move to the Middle East added:
“At my age you have to be open to everything. You are talking about incredible amounts of money in what is likely the end of my career. Sometimes you have to think about that.
Manchester City’s Potential Replacement Target
According to sources Manchester City is keeping tabs on Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes. The midfielder will be targeted if De Bruyne or Bernardo Silva decides to leave.
However, City does not value the Brazilian at $ 126.7 million, which is the release clause in his Newcastle contract. Although negotiations can be initiated for a lower fee there are doubts Newcastle will be interested. Newcastle considers Guimaraes as an important member of the first team and also wants to avoid a summer of speculations.
Conclusion
Manchester City sees no need to alter a winning team with major changes unless an important player asks to leave. Although there isn’t any report of a player requesting to leave, City has been linked with a few players as replacements for players with doubts over their future. In the course of the summer transfer window fingers will be crossed for any eventualities.
