Nikola Jokic Breaks Another NBA Record
Nikola Jokic is a passing savant. He now has the most assists as a center in an NBA season, with 708 this year. The previous record was held by a man known to be on every NBA record list, Wilt Chamberlain. Chamberlain previously stood on top of that list with 702 assists.
Who was third on the list? Nikola Jokic. He had 678 assists last season. If you need further proof that Jokic might be the greatest passing center in NBA history, Nikola Jokic is fourth on the all-time triple-doubles list (points, rebounds, and assists). He has 130 triple-doubles in his career and trails Magic Johnson, who has 138 triple-doubles.
What Other NBA Records He Can Possibly Break?
The Joker could pass Russell Westbrook’s all-time triple-doubles record. He’s in his late 20s and just got into his prime. He has a variety of different weapons around him on the Nuggets. If the franchise can maintain their key weapons, Jokic can surpass even more assist records.
John Stockton had the highest regular season assist average, 14.54, in the 89-90 and 90-91 seasons. He also had the most total assists in a single season, 1,164. Can the Joker break those records? It is a strong MAYBE. It would be insane if he did as a center.
Basketball in Stockton’s era is different compared to today. Basketball is much more positionless now, and we’ve seen Joker pull off some fantastic plays. Although The Joker moves as he plays in flip-flops, his amazing basketball IQ is up there with the great playmakers like LeBron James, Rajon Rondo, Magic, and Stockton.
