AEW All In 2024 has been full of shocking moments as it is All Elite Wrestling’s biggest pay-per-view event of the year. However, Nigel McGuinness made his return to the ring as the third entrant in the Casino Gauntlet Match for a future AEW World Championship match. The AEW commentator getting back in the ring was something that has been rumored since he made his commentary debut with the company for AEW Collision. Let’s take a look at what this means going forward.
Nigel McGuinness Returns to the Ring
While this is not something that we knew about going into the match, Tony Khan did announce there were surprises set for the Casino Gauntlet match. With Kazuchika Okada and Orange Cassidy being the first two entrants in the match, Nigel McGuinness, who left commentary for Tazz prior to the Hook vs. Chris Jericho FTW Championship, made his long-awaited AEW debut. This moment was something people were hoping for as this is the first match that Nigel McGuinness has wrestled since December 17, 2011, when he lost to TJ Phillips at APWA 3rd Annual Holiday Grand Prix.
The commentary team for AEW All In 2024 did a great job of mentioning that this could be Nigel McGuinness hedging his bet that he can challenge for the AEW Championship by winning this match and face off against the potential champion Bryan Danielson. This match is something that many people were hoping for and it was rumored that Nigel McGuinness was attempting to get cleared for in-ring action ahead of AEW All In 2023.
Will this be the only time Nigel McGuinness will wrestle for AEW?
While it is not known at this time how long he will wrestle or if this is just a one-off for himself, Nigel McGuinness looked completely sharp throughout the match. There is the possibility that he can wrestle on a part-time basis as due to the injuries he has sustained that forced him to retire, this is something that could be a major attraction. If Bryan Danielson does win the AEW World Championship later on at AEW All In 2024, the two can renew their rivalry that took place on Ring of Honor more than 15 years ago.
