Bangladesh Women’s captain Nigar Sultana expressed her disappointment at not being able to participate in the T20 Women’s World Cup 2024 at home. Because of the latest move to the United Arab Emirates, which will rob them of the opportunity to represent their country proudly in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Due to travel restrictions imposed by many nations during the political unrest in the subcontinental nation, the International Cricket Council recently agreed to relocate the World Cup from Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates. When reporters brought up the current development, Nigar said, “For the last two days I was unfortunate and today I seemed a bit free because numerous others attempted to explain [the switch] to me in various ways.”
Nigar Reacts On World Cup Shifted To UAE
The ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup will be held at the UAE’s two sites, Dubai and Sharjah, from October 3 to 20. Originally planned to take place in Bangladesh. However, the ICC altered the location owing to travel restrictions imposed by numerous nations due to the subcontinental country’s political situation.
As an ex-player himself, Nigar expressed her excitement at the election of a cricketer to lead the Bangladesh Cricket Board, believing Faruque Ahmed to be a knowledgeable and understanding representative of the sport’s requirements. She felt a tremendous deal of satisfaction in having the chance to perform for her local crowd, thus her sense of loss is significant.
Nigar highlighted that everyone concerned had been waiting anxiously for this chance, which has now been taken away, depriving them of the team. As the first BCB president to participate in competitive cricket, Faruque played seven One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Bangladesh between 1988 and 1999. He also spent two stints as BCB’s chief selector.

“Those present had, I think, taken into account his expertise as board president. Since he is considerate of our demands, I believe the players will benefit from it,” Nigar stated. “Well, it will take some time because we won’t be able to fully appreciate how beneficial he is to us and what is likely to happen until he starts working. I can say that he is well aware of the challenges we typically confront because he played cricket. He was a selector in the past and had previously worked in women’s selection,” Bangladesh Captain explained.
