Niccolò Canepa raced for the last time on Sunday in the Endurance World Championship, which was held in Circuit Paul Ricard. Largely participating in MotoGP races, Canepa set foot in the race with every reason to make it his final race title. Nevertheless, after having a spectacular career that includes MotoGP, World Superbike, and endurance racing, the Italian rider failed to achieve his dream as Yamaha’s YART team lost to the Suzuki-powered Yoshimura team.
Yoshimura Suzuki Triumphs
An action-packed climax was seen in the Circuit Paul Ricard where the Yamaha YART team with Niccolò Canepa on board could not beat the mighty Suzuki-powered Yoshimura team. Despite the team’s most aggressive operations in an attempt to dominate the proceedings, Yamaha’s team was only able to manage a third place which was much out of reach of the premier position that Niccolò Canepa’s career could end on a high note in the championship.
He had recently announced at the start of the season that it would be his final year racing, with his last event being the Bol d’Or in France. Throughout his career which spanned 20 years, Canepa raced across MotoGP, World Superbike (WorldSBK), Moto2, World Supersport (WorldSSP), and MotoE. His real interest lay in endurance racing wherein he had tremendous amounts of success by capturing the Spa, Le Mans, and the Bol d’Or races.

Niccolò Canepa fought for the EWC championship last year and was eyeing for consecutive titles. However, despite his best efforts, his bid for back-to-back titles fell short. The last race was not in the manner he had wanted, he was not able to give a perfect end to his racing career.
This was my last stint in the EWC, Canepa said. It has been a nice journey but unfortunately we didn’t end the race like we wanted. It’s emotional to be here with my teammates and my family here, as well. We shared a lot of amazing moments and a lot of bad moments.
Final Thoughts
For Niccolò Canepa technically retiring at Labbett, showcasing he is one more example of rare talent and hard work. Unfortunately, he failed to live out the happily-ever-after that he desired, but the dawn of endurance racing owes him a lot. Twinning of such premier events as Spa, Le Mans, and the Bol d’Or affirms his status as one of the sport’s legends. Reflecting on his journey, his farewell from racing is bittersweet, marked by triumphs and near-misses. His departure signals the end of an era, but his contributions to motorcycle racing will continue to inspire future generations.
