NFL’s Last Undefeated Teams After A Vicious Week 3

The NFL is heading into week four of the season. Some top teams predicted to make it deep in the playoffs have taken L’s in the first three weeks. It may be a long season, and anything can still happen, but having a winning record makes it easier to make it to the playoffs. However, to take an L this early in the season could mean many things for teams trying to make it to the postseason.

We have seen rematches of last year’s playoff games in this NFL season, like the opening-season Thursday night football game featuring the Baltimore Ravens and the two-time Super Champions Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Rams, and the Detroit Lions in week 1. In week 2, the Detroit Lions hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to name a few, with more matchups in the future. We will focus on the teams that have not lost this season. Which teams are still undefeated after three weeks?

NFC’s Undefeated Teams

There are only two undrafted teams left in the NFC. The Seattle Seahawks have been impressive the past three weeks, but two of their three games have been separated by one score. Geno Smith, the quarterback for the Seahawks, has thrown for 787 yards, completing 74.8% of his passes with three touchdowns and three interceptions. In last week’s game against the Miami Dolphins, Smith threw two picks, but Seattle still came out with the victory 24-3.

Seahawks Wide Receiver D.K Metcalf leads the team in receiving yards with 262 with 17 catches on 24 targets; Metcalf has caught all three of Smith’s touchdown passes. The second undefeated team in the NFC is the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings’ new rookie quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, suffered a season-ending injury to his knee. So Sam Darnold stepped in and led the Vikings to a 3-0 start this NFL season.

Darnold has a passer rating of 117 after the season’s first three weeks. Darnold has thrown for eight touchdowns and has thrown two picks. Justin Jefferson, wide receiver for the Vikings, has three touchdowns with 14 receptions and 273 yards. The Vikings will play the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field this Sunday.

AFC’s Undefeated Teams

Three teams in the NFL’s AFC conference have not lost a game yet this season. It may be no surprise that the Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated after three weeks of NFL football. The Super Bowl champs haven’t looked their best in the past three weeks, but a win is a win. All three of the Chiefs games have been separated by one score. So far, Chiefs star Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has thrown for 659 yards with 69% of his passes completed.

Mahomes has a passing rating of 89 and has thrown five touchdowns with four interceptions. The two-time Super Bowl champs walk into Los Angeles this Sunday to play their division rival, the Chargers. Quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills beat the Jacksonville Jaguars at home to seal their third victory. Josh Allen has completed 75% of his passes, thrown for 634 yards with seven touchdowns with no interceptions, and has only been sacked twice in three games.

Allen also has two rushing touchdowns on the NFL season. It would seem that Josh Allen has been playing better since the departure of Stefon Diggs. Khalil Shakir leads the team in receiving yards with 168 yards on a perfect 14 receptions on 14 targets in the past three games with two touchdowns. The Buffalo Bills will play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers Have Been A Surprise

The undefeated third team in the NFL’s AFC conference is a surprise, considering the controversy surrounding who the starting quarterback would be for the start of the season. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 3-0, led by starting Quarterback Justin Fields. Fields had a decent day completing passes and hurting the defense with his legs during his game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Pittsburgh scrambling quarterback went 25-of-32 for 245 yards. Fields threw one touchdown and a pick. George Pickens, the Steelers’ wide receiver, led the team in yards receiving with 171 yards on 13 receptions on 18 targets. Pickens has yet to score a touchdown this season. The Steelers’ next game is against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Final Thoughts

As the NFL season moves into week four, the question is who will walk out of the week still undefeated. The Bills and Ravens have a game against each other and should be good. If Justin Fields’ progress continues, the Steelers may be 4-0. All five teams have targets on their backs to get their first loss of the season. It’s still early, but could one of these teams possibly go undefeated for the season? That is an NFL team’s dream that only a few teams have done in the past, but we will see how this NFL season goes.
