MLB News: New York Yankees Call Up 15th-Ranked Prospect Amid Massive Stretch of Bad Play

The New York Yankees have been on one of the biggest struggles that a team has had this season as they have failed to win back-to-back games for an entire month. It is being reported that some reinforcements are on the way as SNY’s Andy Martino is reporting that the team is placing JD Davis on the Injured List and calling up their 15th-ranked prospect Jorbit Vivas.

In the minor leagues this season, Vivas has been hitting pretty well as he has a .793 OPS with five home runs, 24 RBIs, and nine steals on 13 tries over the course of 45 games through three different levels. The 23-year-old second baseman could be the replacement for Gleyber Torres if he were to leave as a free agent but the New York Yankees need a spark and are hoping Vivas could provide it before the All-Star break.

What does this mean for the New York Yankees going forward?

The New York Yankees are trying to piece together some wins and going up against the Baltimore Orioles to end the unofficial first half of the season, the team needs to win games. They are currently 2.0 games back of the Orioles in the AL East and 3.5 games up in the AL Wild Card so the playoffs seem to be happening still.

However, this New York Yankees team has been unable to get going for a large part of the season. Adding a young player to the team could give the roster a bit of more life through the toughest stretch of their season thus far. It could be a bit of an audition for Jorbit Vivas as well for either the Yankees or a different team via a trade to acquire a player who can impact the Major League club right now.

The Yankees are 14-18 against the AL East and need to pick up wins. Vivas provides a spark offensively but it will be interesting to see how he reacts to the jump in competition from Triple-A Scranton to the New York Yankees at such a quick turnaround. He has 37 games played in AAA and has been doing well with a .828 OPS and a .258 batting average.
