New York Mets Break Game Open Late To Secure 3-Game Sweep

The New York Mets had a great offensive game on Tuesday.

A grand slam by New York Mets Designated Hitter Jesse Winker in the bottom of the first inning got the scoring started in a hurry tonight at Citi Field. The scoring was far from over though. The Boston Red Sox offense, which has struggled as of late responded with three runs in the top of the third inning. An RBI double by Center Fielder Jarren Duran and two sacrifice flies cut NY’s lead to 4-3. After some fireworks early in the game, everything settled down until the bottom of the eighth inning.

New York scored four runs in the inning to officially put the game out of reach thanks to a whopping five walks in the half inning. The New York Mets won 8-3 to take all three games over the Boston Red Sox. The bullpen worked around trouble to secure the win this evening. Relief Pitcher Huascar Brazoban escaped a runner on first and second base with no outs jam to keep NY’s one-run lead intact. Relief Pitcher Phil Maton also induced a lineout from Red Sox DH Masataka Yoshida with runners on first and third in the top of the eighth inning.

The New York Mets bullpen tossed five scoreless innings to shut the door on the Red Sox. Will the New York Mets be able to keep this momentum going into the home stretch of the regular season?

Tonight’s win was New York’s seventh in a row as they have been the hottest team in baseball over the last week. The team is only o.5 GB of the Atlanta Braves for the third and final National League Wild Card spot. New York’s offense was the star of this series as they scored 15 runs. The Mets offense delivered late in games as they scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning in back-to-back games.

Shortstop Francisco Lindor had 4 RBI in the series as one of the team’s standout performers. The New York Mets pitching staff also fared well in the series as they surrendered only six runs. Starting Pitcher David Peterson also made history in last night’s win by punching out 11.

Mets Upcoming Schedule

The team has a day off tomorrow before they welcome the Cincinnati Reds for a three-game series beginning on Friday. New York will look to continue their winning ways over the final three weeks of the regular season and make the MLB Playoffs for the second time in the last three seasons. The New York Mets have a tough stretch of games to end their regular season with 10 more games this year against the Braves and Philadelphia Phillies.
