New York Mets Shortstop Francisco Lindor made history in the Mets’ 12-3 rout of the New York Yankees on Wednesday night in The Bronx. He went 3-of-5 last night with five RBI including two home runs as the catalyst of New York’s offense against their cross-town rivals. The five RBI set a new season-high for the New York Mets shortstop. Lindor is the only player in Major League Baseball over the last two seasons to have at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases. He has 52 home runs and 51 stolen bases over the last two seasons.
Lindor is hitting .259 this season with 21 home runs and 60 RBI. He is also third amongst all shortstops with 4.5 Wins Above Replacement. Will Lindor be able to keep up his hot streak at the plate as the New York Mets look to keep pace in the National League playoff race?

New York(53-48) is in third place in the National League East and occupies the second National League Wild Card spot. The Mets are riding high and have recovered from a brutal beginning to the 2024 regular season. New York has been paced by a strong offense this season. They are 10th in batting average, tied for fourth in home runs, and sixth in runs scored. Lindor and Left Fielder Brandon Nimmo lead the offense of the New York Mets. Lindor leads the club in batting average, home runs, and hits while Nimmo leads them in RBI and OBP.
The pitching staff of the Mets has been the weaker part of their team this season. They are 20th in ERA, eighth in strikeouts, and ninth in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Luis Severino leads the team in wins and ERA. The team has been plagued by bullpen woes at times this season. They have only converted 62% of their save opportunities this season. Closer Edwin Diaz is still looking to regain his form after missing all of the 2023 season with a knee injury. He only has 12 saves this season.
Mets Upcoming Schedule
The New York Mets begin a four-game series tonight at home against the Atlanta Braves. This will be a critical series for both ballclubs as the Mets and Braves are separated by a mere 1.5 games in the standings. New York begins a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins on Monday.
Lindor, and the rest of the Mets offense, need to continue playing well over the remaining 60 games of the regular season. New York is in prime position to complete one of the greatest turnarounds in league history and make the MLB Playoffs for the first time since 2022.
