New York Mets Re-Sign Ryne Stanek To 1-Year Deal

New York Mets

The New York Mets re-signed Relief Pitcher Ryne Stanek to a one-year deal on Wednesday. He was a key piece of the New York Mets team that made an improbable run to the NLCS last season. He was acquired by New York from the Seattle Mariners before the 2024 MLB Trade Deadline.

While Stanek struggled during the regular season, he raised his level during the MLB Playoffs. He had a 3.38 ERA during the postseason including two holds. Stanek will look to build upon his strong end to the season for the Mets during the 2025 regular season. Will he be a positive piece for the team during the upcoming season?

Stanek Is Another Key New York Mets Signing

It has been a busy offseason for the ballclub in Queens. New York signed Right Fielder Juan Soto to the biggest contract in league history. The Mets also made a concerted effort to bolster their pitching staff during the offseason with Stanek being the latest example. They signed Starting Pitchers Frankie Montas, Griffin Canning, and Sean Manaea. New York also signed Relief Pitcher A.J. Minter last week.

New York’s pitching staff was strong in the regular season but struggled in the MLB Playoffs. They were 15th in ERA, fifth in strikeouts, and second in opposing batting average during the regular season. On the other hand, their pitching staff had no answers for the Los Angeles Dodgers and their historic offensive performance in the NLCS. The New York Mets were 10th out of 12 playoff teams with a 4.91 postseason ERA. The performance of their pitchers led to a disappointing end to their Cinderella-type playoff run.

Final Thoughts

The New York Mets have not rested after making the NLCS in October. They have made key improvements to their roster as they look to win their first World Series since 1986. Stanek will be a key piece of New York’s bullpen in 2025.
