The New York Mets had a great offensive showing on Monday night on the road against the Miami Marlins. They scored a season-high 10 runs in the win led by a grand slam by First Baseman Pete Alonso. Even though New York only scored in three half innings (3rd, 5th, and 6th) they had a great game at the plate.
Alonso finished with 4 RBI. Catcher Luis Torrens and Left Fielder each had 2 RBI. Designated Hitter Starling Marte and Center Fielder Jose Siri had an RBI each to finish the scoring. Starting Pitcher David Peterson had a strong season debut surrendering two earned runs over six innings of work. Relief Pitcher Danny Young surrendered two earned runs in the bottom of the ninth, but New York’s offense led them to victory. Will Monday night’s performance be a sign of things to come for the New York Mets on offense?
New York Mets Season Outlook
Before their performance against the Miami Marlins, New York’s offense had yet to find its footing. They had only scored five runs in their opening series of the season against the Houston Astros. New York has World Series aspirations this season. They will need their offense to carry the load for that to become a reality.
New York’s offense will be led by marquee offseason acquisition Juan Soto, Alonso, Shortstop Francisco Lindor, and Third Baseman Mark Vientos. The issue for New York this season could be their starting rotation. That part of the club has been bitten by the injury bug this season. Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea, Paul Blackburn, and Frankie Montas are on the IL. They all seek a return to the rotation sooner rather than later.
Final Thoughts
New York returns to the field tonight for the middle game of their three-game set with the Marlins. They have a day off on Thursday before making their home debut on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays. The New York Mets should be one of the league’s best teams this year. Their offense must continue playing well and hold up their end of the bargain.
