New York Mets Francisco Lindor Makes History

New York Mets Shortstop Francisco Lindor made history on Tuesday night.

New York Mets Shortstop Francisco Lindor made history this afternoon in a 4-3 victory against the Baltimore Orioles. With a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning, Lindor became the first shortstop in league history to have three seasons of 25 or more home runs and 25 or more stolen bases. He also accomplished this feat in 2018 and 2023.

Lindor went 2-of-4 this afternoon with one RBI as he added an infield single in the bottom of the first inning. It has been a strong 2024 for the perennial All-Star as he is hitting .266 with 25 home runs and 73 RBI. He is 19th in the league in home runs and 23rd in RBI. Will Lindor be able to keep up his stellar play as he helps the New York Mets make a playoff push down the home stretch of the regular season?

Francisco Lindor Career Summary

Lindor made his MLB debut with the Cleveland Guardians in 2015 and has been one of the best players in the league ever since. He spent the first six seasons of his career in Cleveland before being traded to the New York Mets in January 2021. He signed a 10-year $341 million deal with New York following the blockbuster acquisition. Lindor is a four-time MLB All-Star, three-time Silver Slugger Award winner, two-time Gold Glove Award winner, and has finished top 10 in MVP voting five times. He is a career .273 hitter with 240 home runs and 752 RBI.

New York Mets Season Summary

New York(66-61) is in third place in the National League East and is two games back of the third and final National League Wild Card spot. Their offense has been strong this season. They are 12th in batting average, fifth in home runs, and 10th in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Lindor and First Baseman Pete Alonso. Lindor leads the ballclub in batting average and RBI while Alonso leads them in home runs.

The pitching staff of the New York Mets has also been strong this season. They are 19th in ERA, sixth in strikeouts, and tied for fifth in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea leads the team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts and turned in another solid start this afternoon. He surrendered three earned runs over seven innings of work while punching out nine.

Mets Upcoming Schedule

The New York Mets head west before beginning a critical four-game series with the San Diego Padres tomorrow night. This will be a stiff test for NY as the Padres are the top wild card team in the National League. If the New York Mets are to snatch one of the NL wild card spots, Lindor will need to continue playing well and anchor a Mets offense that has been a strength this season.
