New York Mets Face Do-Or-Die Game 3 Against Milwaukee Brewers

The New York Mets face a critical game tonight.

The New York Mets had a golden opportunity to avoid a winner-take-all Game 3 last night on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers but faltered down the stretch. Relief Pitcher Phil Maton had a miserable outing as he surrendered three earned runs in the bottom of the eighth frame. New York Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza saw his decisions questioned last night as it pertained to the bullpen. He put in Maton instead of sticking with relievers who had been successful in previous innings. As the adage goes, hindsight is 20/20.

New York must not dwell on the missed opportunity as their focus turns to tonight’s ballgame as a victory will extend their season and a loss will send them home. Will the New York Mets or Milwaukee Brewers win this critical game?

Looking Ahead To Tonight’s Game

The New York Mets send Starting Pitcher Jose Quintana(10-10, 3.75 ERA) to the mound tonight with their season hanging in the balance. He is opposed by Tobias Myers(9-6, 3.00 ERA) of the Milwaukee Brewers. Quintana had a solid regular season and had success against Milwaukee this season. He surrendered two earned runs over 4.1 innings of work and struck out a season-high nine batters. Quintana will look for a repeat of that performance this evening.

Myers has also experienced success against New York this season. He faced the New York Mets on Saturday and fared well. He tossed five scoreless innings. With both starting pitchers having recent success against the other, Game 3 could be a low-scoring matchup. Regardless of how the pitchers fare, both managers will manage aggressively as their season comes down to nine innings. Both offenses will look to get on the board early and apply pressure to the opposition. With this being a must-win game, the pressure will ratchet up in the later innings.

Stakes Could Not Be Any Higher In Game 3

The New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers had stellar regular seasons and do not want their playoff journey to end any time soon. The winner of this game will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the ALDS beginning Saturday. New York is familiar with the Phillies as they went 6-7 against them this season. New York is aiming for their first series win since they made the World Series in 2015.

With Milwaukee’s improbable win last night, they have won their first playoff game since 2021. They hope to make two victories in a row and advance to the NLDS. Milwaukee lost four of six to the Phillies this season. This is what playoff baseball is all about. After a season-long slog, nine innings will determine which team keeps their postseason alive while is sent home wondering what could have been. Both the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers will give it their best shot this evening as they look to advance in the 2024 MLB Playoffs.
