New York Mets Suffer Crushing Defeat; Game 3 Tomorrow

The New York Mets lost a rough game tonight.

The New York Mets coughed up a late-game lead and gave the Milwaukee Brewers their first postseason victory since 2021. New York was bested 5-3 to force a winner-take-all Game 3 tomorrow evening. The New York Mets got off to a quick start this evening on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers. Left Fielder Brandon Nimmo hit an RBI single to give NY an early 1-0 lead. The inning could have been even better but First Baseman Pete Alonso grounded into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.

New York’s lead was short-lived as two pitches into the bottom half of the first inning, Left Fielder Jackson Chourio cracked a solo shot to tie the game at 1. New York’s offense responded by scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. Catcher Francisco Alvarez hit an RBI single and Shortstop Francisco Lindor hit a SAC Fly to make it 3-1 Mets. Milwaukee cut the lead in half when Center Fielder Blake Perkins hit a Sac Fly in the bottom of the fifth. The New York Mets had a golden opportunity to increase their lead in the sixth inning but failed to capitalize as Second Baseman Jose Iglesias struck out with the bases loaded.

Then the bottom of the eighth inning happened. Chourio hit a solo home run, his second of the night, to tie the game at 3. Garrett Mitchell pinch-hit with the game on the line and was up to the task on Wednesday night. He cracked a two-run home run to clinch the victory for the Brewers. Which team will win Game 3 and advance to the NLDS?

New York Mets Bullpen Implodes

The New York Mets did not play their best tonight, but it looked like it would be enough for them to leave Milwaukee with the series victory. The team went 2-of-11 with RISP, but their pitching staff hunkered down to protect their one-run lead until the bottom of the eighth inning. Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea had a solid outing. He surrendered two earned runs over five innings of work and walked away with a no-decision. Relief Pitchers Reed Garrett and Ryne Stanek tossed a scoreless inning each.

Then Relief Pitcher Phil Maton came in and had a miserable evening. He surrendered three earned runs over one inning of work. New York was set down in order to force a Game 3 tomorrow in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After being so close to victory this evening  New York will have to recover quickly with Game 3 on the horizon.

Looking Ahead To Game 3

With their season on the line, Milwaukee will send Starting Pitcher Tobias Myers(9-6, 3.00 ERA) to the mound. He faced the New York Mets on Saturday and fared well. He tossed five scoreless innings. At the time of publication, the New York Mets have not announced their starting pitcher for tomorrow’s contest. This will be an exciting game as both teams will use every weapon in their arsenal to win tomorrow night and keep their season alive. The winner of tomorrow night’s game will face the Philadelphia Phillies in a series that begins on Saturday.
