New York Mets-A.J. Minter Agree On 2-Year Deal

New York Mets

The New York Mets and Relief Pitcher A.J. Minter agreed to terms on a 2-year $22 million deal on Friday afternoon. The deal reportedly includes an opt-out after the 2025 season. Minter is coming off a solid season for the Atlanta Braves going 5-4 with a 2.62 ERA. After spending the entirety of his career with New York’s divisional rival, he will head up to Flushing Meadows. Will Minter be an integral player for the New York Mets in 2025?

New York Mets Continue Great Offseason

Minter is another example of the New York Mets not resting on its laurels after shockingly advancing to the NLCS. They would go on to lose in six games to the Los Angeles Dodgers. New York’s big offseason acquisition was signing Right Fielder Juan Soto. He signed a 15-year $765 million contract in December 2024. Even though Soto was the biggest signing for the New York Mets this offseason, he was far from their only one. New York’s other moves have mostly bolstered their pitching staff.

They signed Starting Pitchers Frankie Montas and Griffin Canning. New York also re-signed Outfielder/Designated Hitter Jesse Winker 24 hours ago and Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea earlier in the offseason. New York’s pitching staff was solid this past season. They were 15th in team ERA, second in opposing batting average, and fifth in strikeouts. New York’s pitching staff was not as strong in the MLB Playoffs. They were 10th in ERA, 9th in opposing batting average, and 10th in WHIP. The Mets could not stop a historic offensive onslaught by the Dodgers.

Final Thoughts

New York has done a great job improving its roster this offseason and is tied for the fourth-best odds to win the 2025 World Series. The team is reportedly planning to be without First Baseman Pete Alonso for the upcoming season. The sides have been unable to agree to terms on a contract extension this offseason. Signing Minter is further evidence the New York Mets are making contingency plans for not re-signing Alonso.
