New York Knicks Point Guard Jalen Brunson On Historic Pace

New York Knicks

New York Knicks Point Guard Jalen Brunson is looking to accomplish something that has never been done in NBA history. He is on pace to become the first player to average 25+ points per game and 7+ assists with 2.5 or fewer turnovers per game since turnovers were first officially tracked in 1977-78. Brunson’s great season had him selected to the NBA All-Star Game earlier this year.

Brunson is ninth in the league in points per game with 26.1 and ninth in assists with 7.5. He is also averaging 2.4 turnovers per game. That puts him on the precipice of NBA history. Will he be able to make NBA history as the New York Knicks look to climb up the Eastern Conference standings?

New York Knicks Season Summary

New York has had a strong first half of the regular season. They are 36-18 and the third seed in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks have been led by a stellar offense this season. They are fourth in points per game, third in field goal percentage, and fifth in three-point percentage. Brunson and Center Karl-Anthony Towns have been the driving force behind a great offensive performance.

New York’s defense has been an issue for them this season. That is not usually an issue for Head Coach Tom Thibodeau as his teams generally feature some of the best defenses in the National Basketball Association. New York is 13th in opposing points per game, 20th in opposing field goal percentage, and the worst team in the league at defending the three-pointer. The New York Knicks must iron out their defense to become a true threat in the Eastern Conference.

Final Thoughts

Brunson will get to showcase his skills to a national audience tomorrow in the NBA All-Star Game. He was selected to play on Kenny Smith’s squad. Brunson and the New York Knicks return to the court at home on February 20 against the Chicago Bulls. If the star point guard can make history, it will bode well for New York in the season’s second half.
