New York Jets Campaigning For Team To Trade For All-Pro Wide Receiver

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is never short of conspiracy theories. Davante Adams

The New York Jets are in win-now mode. They have an aging quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, who might only have one or two years left in the league. They signed many veteran free agents for short-term deals. Their young superstars, like Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, are on cheap rookie deals. The Jets are set up to win. However, many players think the team could upgrade. Many Jets players are campaigning for the team to trade for Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams.

The connection is pretty obvious. Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers spent years in Green Bay together and had huge amounts of success. Adams was traded to the Raiders, hoping to lead that team to playoff glory. While Adams has been spectacular, the team has not. It has led to many wondering whether the New York Jets would attempt to trade for him. The star players of the team certainly want it to happen.

Aaron Rodgers’ feelings are clear. At a golf tournament this weekend, he was quoted saying, “I love Davante Adams. I can’t wait to play with him… again.” It isn’t just Rodgers. Garrett Wilson recently told Brian Costello of the New York Post, “I see that. I’m excited. I’m with all of it. “Anyone we can get into the facility to help this team win games, I’m with it, and he’s one of those.” Running back Breece Hall talked with Kay Adams about the potential of Adams on this offense. The players want him, but could this actually happen?

Realistic Trade?

The trade makes sense for both teams. A Super Bowl is worth any price for the New York Jets fan base. Even if it means mortgaging the future. Bringing in Adams would immediately give the Jets one of the best wide-receiver duos in the league. For the Raiders, it would give them more draft capital/young players to rebuild around. With Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew as the top two quarterbacks and being in a division with the Kansas City Chiefs, the team is likely to struggle.

The Raiders would ask for a king’s ransom. There would be at least one first-round pick involved, if not multiple. From there, day two picks would likely be included, and possibly even a young player who the Jets might be willing to move off of. Conditions could be put on the picks to protect the New York Jets but it would be a steep price.

Should They Pay It?

An offense with Davante Adams and Garett Wilson would be hard to stop. It would immediately put them in the category of elite contenders. While they are already in the conversation now, most analysts have them a step below teams like the Chiefs. It all comes down to how much GM Joe Douglas wants to risk. If he goes all-in on an Adams trade and they win a Super Bowl, he will be a hero forever. If it doesn’t, it has the potential to put the team in another downward spiral that will be hard to recover from.

This team has all the ingredients, and the players certainly want to add more talent. It will be an interesting subplot of the offseason, and if the Raiders start out poorly, the rumors might get louder.
