2024 New York Jets Season: An Optimistic Take

New York Jets Zach Wilson

Even though the New York Jets were outclassed by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night, there’s reason to believe they will still have a good 2024 season. What’s most troubling about the Jets performance in San Francisco, in front of a national television audience, is that they proved they will struggle to win on the road against strong football teams. They’ll likely have to win games like this one if they are to go far in the playoffs. But this article shows the reasons for optimism. And there are many.

Aaron Rogers Is Healthy

Aaron Rogers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, is now 40 years old. On only the fourth play of last season, he tore his Achilles tendon and was out for the season. He successfully staged his comeback, unlikely though it is, in the team’s Monday night loss to the 49ers.  He came out of the Monday night game healthy, and New York Jets fans should be happy. Aaron Rogers should be the main quarterback this season. The next four games are winnable and Rogers should be the QB of a 4-1 team after Week 5.

The Running Game Is Solid

Breece Hall rushed for 54 yards for the New York Jets against the 49ers. This is middling output. However, in Breece Hall, the primary running back for the New York Jets, they have one of the best running backs in the National Football League who should easily eclipse 1,000 yards this season. Running the ball is essential in the National Football League, and the Jets will be able to do that. The offensive line is solid as well.

The Defense Is Too Good

The defense for the New York Jets is very good, despite the 32 points they gave up on Monday night. Nevertheless, the Jets came out of that Monday night game fairly healthy. They have stars at all three levels of the defense, but linebacker CJ Mosley and cornerback Sauce Gardner are standouts. Mosley is skilled and experienced, and ESPN projects he will make 153 tackles this season. Gardner may simply be the best cornerback in the National Football League. The Jets defense will be fine, and having a strong defense is essential to winning in the NFL.

Conclusion

The Jets lost 32-19 to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football. This anemic performance was on national television for all in the country to see. Nevertheless, the macro indicators still look good for the Jets. Their quarterback play is great, they have a good running back, and a strong defense – all three are essential to winning games in the NFL. It’s plausible the Jets will start 4-1 and win ten or eleven games this year. That should be good enough to make the playoffs.
