New York Giants Wide Receiver Malik Nabers Makes History In Week 18

New York Giants

With a reception late in today’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants Wide Receiver Malik Nabers set a franchise record. Nabers finished the regular season with 109 receptions which set the New York Giants franchise record. The record was set by Steve Smith who had 107 receptions in 2009.

Nabers took the NFL by storm in his rookie campaign. He was drafted No. 6 overall out of LSU and surpassed even the most lofty of expectations this season. Nabers finished the season with 1,204 receiving yards and 7 receiving touchdowns. Will the star wide receiver be able to carry this success into his sophomore season with the New York Giants?

New York Giants Enter a Critical Offseason

The New York Giants enter a critical offseason where the first question they have to answer will be what to do with General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brain Daboll. Co-owner John Mara must determine if he trusts that duo with the No. 3 overall pick. There have been conflicting reports regarding the job security of Daboll and Schoen.

New York’s roster is devoid of talent, and they must address the QB position this offseason. Whether it is drafting a quarterback at No. 3, or turning to a veteran as a bridge quarterback, the current situation is not tenable. Possible options for the New York Giants at quarterback are Colorado Quarterback Shedeur Sanders, Miami Quarterback Cam Ward, or current Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Sam Darnold. Daniel Jones was viewed as New York’s long-term answer at the position, but he was cut during the regular season.

Final Thoughts

In what was another lost season for the New York Giants, the performance of Nabers was one of the lone bright spots. What made the performance this season by the rookie wide receiver more impressive was the revolving door of quarterbacks that threw him the ball this year.

Jones, Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle all threw passes to Nabers this season. Even with so much uncertainty at the quarterback position, Nabers’ production never dipped. He had 50+ receiving yards in all but one game this year and had three games of 100+ receiving yards. As the New York Giants get ready to begin the offseason, Nabers is a piece the team can build around for years to come.
