The New York Giants are finalizing their roster for the 2024 NFL season. This would include the Giants releasing some recognizable names in Wide Receivers Isaiah Hodgins and Allen Robinson, Fullback Jacob Johnson, and Darnay Holmes on Tuesday. Included among these cuts were moves by the New York Giants to reduce the number down to a mandatory 53 players ahead of the season opener.
New York Giants’ Notable Cuts
Isaiah Hodgins was waived after making a memorable impact during the 2022 postseason. He caught a touchdown in a playoff win at the Vikings. In the last two seasons, he scored seven touchdowns in 25 regular season games. The Giants went in another direction.
They also released Wide Receiver Allen Robinson. Robinson inked a deal with the New York Giants in hopes of making an impact, but he won’t play a part in the Giants’ plans moving forward. Fullback Jacob Johnson was signed earlier in the month to add depth but was also let go. He is a five-year veteran of the NFL, having spent the last two seasons with the Raiders. He inked a one-year, $2 million deal with the Giants but failed to make the roster.

One other significant cut was Cornerback Darnay Holmes. While he saw quite a bit of action in the final preseason game against the Jets, he came away from it with a neck injury that very likely played a significant role in his release. His exit certainly does provide opportunities for those in the defensive backfield.
Freeing up these roster spots, in addition to these cuts, the New York Giants released several other players. The team released Linebacker Tomon Fox, whose stay with the Giants has been a bit of a rollercoaster since 2022. Other players who got let go include Tre Herndon, Dante Miller, and tight ends Lawrence Cager and Jack Stoll.

Also let go were Wide Receiver Miles Boykin and Center Jimmy Morrissey. The New York Giants would like to keep these players with their organization and are bringing them into their practice squad to continue getting chances to work with the team throughout the season.
