New York Giants Player Has High Praise for New Teammate

New York Giants

It is no secret that the New York Giants are desperate for a dynamic offensive player. This is especially true since their dynamic running back and former first-round pick, Saquon Barkley, is now off playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. New York hopes they have that dynamic player when they draft wide receiver Malik Nabers out of LSU with the sixth overall pick.

Nabers had an incredible run with LSU during his three seasons on the Tigers, and this past season was one of his best at the collegiate level. The wideout had over 1,500 receiving yards in 2023 on 89 receptions with 14 touchdowns and averaged over 17 yards a throw.

Those numbers were also some of the best stats by a wide receiver in the SEC. So, it is safe to say that the Giants are hoping for big things out of their new number-one receiver. And this Giants player certainly thinks very highly of Nabers, which should grab the attention of Giants fans everywhere.

WR Darius Slayton Thinks Nabers’ Game is Similar to Ja’Marr Chase

This is high praise Nabers got from his teammate and fellow wide receiver, Darius Slayton. Slayton, who’s led the Giants in receiving yards for the last few seasons, is comparing what he’s seen out of Nabers so far during offseason programs to Pro Bowl wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

Chase was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with their first-round pick in 2021. Chase showed why he was worth taking after the Bengals received some blowback for not drafting an offensive lineman.

He has racked up over 1,000 receiving yards in his first three seasons in the NFL and has become one of the league’s most electric wide receivers. So, for Slayton to compare Nabers to Chase before stepping out on the field to play in an NFL game is something to note.

Slayton appeared on the All Facts No Brakes podcast with Keyshawn Johnson and praised his new teammate.

‘Honestly in my opinion he reminds me of Ja’Marr Chase, it’s like a clone. Malik’s about six-foot, they’re about the same size,’ said Slayton. ‘Dimensionaly they’re about the same, his body movements, it’s actually kind of weird watching him move around. He’s really talented, he’s got good hands. ‘

Can Nabers live up to those praises?

Nabers had an amazing collegiate career with the LSU Tigers and the Giants, and Slayton, in particular, is expecting him to build on those stats. But the bigger question is, can Nabers live up to the praise he received from Slayton?

The New York Giants have not had a wide receiver catch for over 1,000 yards since Odell Beckam Jr. did it in 2018. No wide receiver for the Giants has come close to getting over 1,000 yards since then. It’s been no secret that the Giants have lacked a number-one wideout since Beckham Jr., who played for the Giants from 2014-2018, but they’re hoping Slayton can turn the Giants’ offense around, which has struggled for years in its inability to put up points.

Nabers adds his talents to the Giants’ receiver corps, which also includes the aforementioned Slayton as well as Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt. Is Malik Nabers the missing piece to this offense?   Slayton certainly thinks so in his recent comments. So the fact that he’s already talking about how Nabers has similarities to Ja’Marr Chase is a sign of good things to come for the New York Giants in 2024.
