New York Giants Sign Legendary Veteran Kicker

New York Giants sign

With the NFL season three weeks in, the New York Giants sign veteran kicker Greg Joseph for depth. After losing their star kicker Graham Gano, the Giants hope that Joseph still has some leg left in him. With the Giants down with a kicker, this could be a great opportunity for Joseph to have another solid season.

If the Giants keep him, this also simplifies the Giants’ special teams for the rest of the season. Along with having Joseph, they could cut Gano or another kicker in case this pans out.

With the season getting desperate, the New York Giants signed a veteran kicker, which should make things easier for the team.

After a crushing loss against the Commanders, the New York Giants sign veteran kicker Joseph from the Lions practice squad. After poorly managing the roster before the game, Giants management is looking to improve it by signing a veteran kicker. With getting a kicker, the Giants won’t need to make reckless moves, including going for two after a score.

While this move seems desperate for a team that is 0-2, the Giants kicker from the Lions practice squad was a solid kicker in the last two seasons. During the last season, Joseph was 24/30 with the Vikings in 2023. Joseph also made that amazing kick to beat the Giants in 2022 and could have much power left.

Making this move from a roster perspective makes sense because it makes it easier to gameplan. During the loss, the Giants had to use two-point conversions, which failed twice, along with a missed kick. This season could be another frustrating one for fans, but they have a kicker who could kick from 50+ yards.

Joseph is also younger than Gano and could have a shot at being a permanent member of the Giants if they keep him. Even with an extension given to Gano, they could keep both or cut Gano to save the trouble. The New York Giants sign Joseph, hopefully, to give Gano rest and/or potentially a way to retire and have a younger kicker.

Final Thoughts

The New York Giants signed Joseph to help the team win close games, and he could do that in a struggling season.

After a disastrous game against their divisional rivals, the Giants needed to make this move quickly. While the team is struggling offensively, they at least have a kicker to win close games. Joseph has been clutch with the Vikings and could have another great season.

There is a chance that Gano could retire due to his age and health concerns, so getting Joseph is a great insurance option. With the Giants’ season being a complete disaster, their special teams at least improve in the meantime.
