New York Giants Cut Disastrous 2019 First-Round Pick

New York Giants Daniel Jones

In a string of bad luck for the team, the New York Giants cut former first-round pick Daniel Jones today. After an ineffective six years, the New York Giants send their first-round pick to free agency. Giants fans won’t miss Jones, due to being as effective as a water gun to a tank in his quarterback tenure.

Even with a solid first year, Jones was not a starting quarterback due to his turnover ability and amazing overthrown passes. While he could be a solid leader, Jones was not ready to be a starting quarterback for the team.

While Jones did have a good season in 2022, it was mostly due to other offensive abilities of others. There is also the playoff win that Jones had due to the inability of the Vikings’ defensive schemes. After the playoff win, the Giants gave Jones a 140 million dollar deal that would be a disaster for everyone.

The New York Giants cut of Daniel Jones is the best franchise move for everyone involved.

New York Giants Cut Daniel Jones

During another horror show of a season, the New York Giants cut their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones after benching him. Jones this season had anything but a good season with missing throws and barely running the ball. After the injury last season, Jones has not been effective in the run game for the Giants this season. The team also struggled to get anything offensive with Jones as the starter.

While the benching of Jones and him playing net safety was a circus show itself, the starter for the Giants wasn’t good. Jones this season had eight touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a QBR of 46. The numbers for Jones on the advanced stats are also poor, with terrible deep passes from the Giants quarterback.

While the numbers were not good, the team still went with him because the other options were also weak. There was also the Giants paying Jones 145 million dollars after a solid 2022 season even with average numbers. The Giants had to cut him after the bad press and it was the right choice to move on from this disaster.

New York Giants Cut Not Fully On Jones

Jones’s being cut wasn’t fully his responsibility due to the organization’s inability to support him. New York did a poor job in supporting Jones with weak offensive linemen and other mistakes. There is also letting a certain running back go to their rivals after a disappointing 2023 season. The team’s front office did a poor job of supporting their first-round pick during the past six years.

While the team didn’t help out Jones, the player himself was also a disaster for the team. Jones during his six-year career was 24-44 with only one playoff win. Even with a playoff win, it was against one of the worst Vikings defenses that Jones torched in 2022.

Jones was rewarded with a four-year contract after the season and it didn’t work out. The Giants were planning on moving on from Jones after 2021 not renewing his fifth-year option, but his solid season saved him.

Final Thoughts

The New York Giants cut of Daniel Jones shows the ineptness of the organization and moving on from a horrible era.

This New York Giants era with Jones has been a disaster for six years of mediocrity and pain for fans. There was misery with Jones as the starting quarterback, who lacked offense and success. Along with the lack of success, Jones’ ability was hampered by the team’s inability to support him.

While the team not supporting Jones was a problem, the team also did their best to give him weapons. Jones did not deliver, after getting the contract by throwing balls over receivers hands. Along with Jones overthrowing receivers, he had cost the teams games with his poor quarterback play.

While people are shocked by the benching, the team had to make the move to prepare for next season. Players are in support of Jones due to his great character but it had to be made. With the NFL draft next year, the New York Giants cut Jones to try and get a future quarterback for their future.
