New York Giants In Pole Position For No. 1 Overall Pick In 2025 NFL Draft

New York Giants 2025 NFL Draft

The New York Giants season has been a downright disaster. After last year’s debacle, many fans did not think it could get worse. It has. Daniel Jones was shockingly cut in the middle of the season. Outside of a few rookies, there have been limited bright spots. The coaching staff seems to have lost the team, and fans are calling on the owner to sell the team.

To make matters worse, former player Saquon Barkley is on pace to break the all-time rushing record as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. For any team struggling, the silver lining is a better draft pick. With the results from Sunday, the Giants are now in pole position for the number one overall pick.

New York Giants 2025 NFL Draft Position

The biggest game on Sunday in terms of draft order was the Las Vegas Raiders vs. Jacksonville Jaguars. Las Vegas was one of the teams that the New York Giants were battling with for the number one overall pick. The Raiders won today, picking up their third win of the season. This leaves the Giants as the only two-win team in the NFL. If they lose out, they will secure the number one overall pick. The team definitely needs it, as the quarterback position needs to be fixed.

After Jones was cut, the team turned to a combination of Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock. DeVito was not able to capture last year’s magic and got injured. Lock hasn’t been much better. Each week has had a myriad of embarrassing throws and questionable decisions. It’s clear the team needs a quarterback, and the number one overall pick gives them the choice of whoever they want rather than having to jockey for draft position.

Who Should They Target?

Let’s say the New York Giants are able to secure the number one overall pick. Who should they target? The top two names right now are Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward and Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Sanders seems to be hinting he would rather not go to the Giants. For some prospects, this wouldn’t matter. Sanders comes with extra baggage due to Deion Sanders being his father. The organization may decide not to deal with the headache if he really doesn’t want to be drafted by the team.

Ward had a Heisman-worthy season at Miami this year. He is a dual-threat quarterback who has shown an ability to score in bunches. The good news for the New York Giants is they have some nice offensive pieces. Malik Nabers has looked elite at times and his lack of production may come from a lack of talent at the quarterback position.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. has been a revelation at running back. The 166th pick in this year’s draft has rushed for 695 yards and caught 30 passes for 220 yards. With a competent quarterback, this team could be a good offense.

Final Thoughts

Tanking in the NFL is difficult. Players have too much to play for on a week-to-week basis. While a player may not have a future with a team, they are playing for their next contract. The New York Giants take on the Indianapolis Colts at home before ending the season in Philadelphia. It will be interesting to see whether this team shows any fight or whether they secure the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft without any drama.
