The New Orleans Saints are looking for a bounceback year in 2024. They did have a winning season, finishing 9-8. However, they missed the playoffs due to a tiebreaker with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team is also paying the price for kicking the can down the road on the salary cap. Still, this team has plenty of talent, and they hope to make a playoff push in 2024. It will be a little harder to begin the season as All-Pro right tackle Ryan Ramczyk has been placed on the reserve/PUP list and will miss at least the first four games of the season.
New Orleans Saints Ryan Ramczyk To Miss At Least Four Games
Ryan Ramczyk missed the last four games of last season due to a knee injury. The New Orleans Saints announced he would need surgery in the offseason but had optimism he would be ready for the beginning of next season. However, head coach Dennis Smith revealed in March that his knee was not responding well and there was a chance he would miss some time. They confirmed that today by placing him on the reserve/PUP list which requires a player to miss at least four games.
The 2017 first-round pick has been a staple of the New Orleans Saints line, and he will be missed. When he does return to the practice field, the team will have a 21-day window to activate him. If he is not activated in that window, he will remain on the PUP list for the rest of the season. The team hopes to avoid that fate and have him back on the field for the second half of the season.
Huge Loss For The Team
Ryan Ramczyk has been one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL since he came into the league. He earned All-Pro honors in three straight seasons from 2018-2020. Injuries have started to pop up more often, which has kept him out of the lineup. The New Orleans Saints took some steps in the offseason to have some insurance in case he misses time. They drafted Oregon State lineman Taliese Fuaga in the first round and have been working out left tackle Trevor Penning at right tackle.
The New Orleans Saints hope their star right tackle can make a full recovery and play this season. In the NFC South, the Falcons have gotten a lot better, while the Buccaneers are running it back with a similar team. Even the Panthers should be slightly better in 2024, making the job of the Saints even tougher. This will be a situation to monitor once the season starts. If he misses the entire season, it could have a drastic effect on the 2024 season.
