The New Orleans Saints took on the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon. The Saints beat the Giants in a low-scoring game 14-11. An unfortunate event happened though and Quarterback Derek Carr left the game with an apparent left arm injury that involved his wrist and hand after awkwardly falling to the ground. The Saints fear that Carr sustained a fracture in his left hand, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Carr will undergo further testing shortly to determine the severity of his injury.
Derek Carr Leaves the Game With An Injury
The specifics are unknown at this time but Carr went to scramble for a first down late in the fourth quarter at MetLife Stadium on Sunday and dove over three other players to try and do so. As he fell to the turf out of bounds just shy of the first down marker, however, Carr landed directly on his left wrist and arm. Carr immediately reached for his arm while on the ground, clearly in a great deal of pain. Carr walked off the field and into the locker room, and he didn’t move his left arm much. He did not return.
Derek Carr finished the day completing 21-of-31 for 219 yards, and a touchdown. He also threw his fifth interception of the season. New Orleans Saints backup Quarterback Jake Haener finished the game for the Saints. Saints Head Coach Darren Rizzi said that the quarterback had injured his left hand and also admitted that he could enter concussion protocol. This is the second injury this season for Derek Carr as he suffered an oblique injury against the Kansas City Chiefs on October 7.
The New York Giants lost the game against the Saints by missing a game-winning field goal. The New York Giants will take on the Baltimore Ravens and the Saints will host the Washington Commanders next week.
Final Thoughts
The New Orleans Saints fear that their Quarterback Derek Carr will be done for the rest of the season with a fractured left hand. It is Carr’s non-throwing hand, so that is good news for the Saints but not so great news as they will still lose their quarterback. The Saints are on the bubble in third place in the NFC South behind the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons did lose against the Minnesota Vikings and the Saints beat the Giants so it keeps the Saints alive for now in the playoff hunt at 5-8.
