The New Orleans Saints spent all week hearing about how their dominant victory in week 1 was a fluke. Many people thought their matchup against the Dallas Cowboys would be a reckoning. Dallas had a winning streak going at home in the regular season. The Saints are showing they are here to stay. The game was never close. Behind another amazing performance by running back Alvin Kamara, the Saints shellacked the Cowboys in Jerry World.
New Orleans Saints Run All Over Dallas Cowboys
Alvin Kamara is no stranger to having multi-touchdown games for the New Orleans Saints. He famously had a six-touchdown performance in the 2020 season. On Sunday, he took 20 carries and ran for 115 yards. He added another 65 receiving yards and an additional score. Derek Carr didn’t have to do much. He only attempted 16 passes the whole game for 243 yards and two touchdowns. Carr did have one interception, but it did not end up mattering.
The Dallas Cowboys couldn’t stop the Saints in the first half. The star-studded defense gave up 35 points in the first two quarters. It wasn’t much better on offense. Dallas only rushed for 68 yards, mostly because they had to abandon the run game completely by the second quarter. Dak Prescott threw for 293 yards but also threw two interceptions. It was a classic Dallas Cowboys performance.
Are The Saints For Real?
We cannot ignore the New Orleans Saints after this game. While the Panthers look abysmal, Dallas looked like a complete team last week against the Cleveland Browns. It was shocking to see the Cowboys get dominated in every way by a team that many had picking in the top ten in next year’s draft. There are plenty of holes in the roster. However, Alvin Kamara has shown he is still an elite running back. He has the ability to take over a game like he did today completely. With more games against the NFC South, the Saints have put themselves in a good position moving forward.
It is yet another disappointment for the Dallas Cowboys. When the team loses, they tend to lose spectacularly. While it is easy to rag on Dak Prescott, the defense was the real problem today. Not many quarterbacks are going to win games when their defense gives up 35 points in a half. Ultimately, it is one loss for the team. Sitting at 1-1 two games into the season isn’t terrible. However, the Cowboys showed they have plenty of things to work on if they expect to compete for a Super Bowl this year.
