Neville Gallimore Joins Rams 53-Man Roster

Neville Gallimore

In an unexpected move, the Los Angeles Rams signed Neville Gallimore to their 53-man roster. NFL fans sat up when this defensive lineman signed on the dotted line after recently being part of the Dolphins’ roster cuts. This is a new beginning for the four-year veteran, now joining a team in transition.

Neville Gallimore was on a one-year deal with the Dolphins this offseason, previously belonging to the Cowboys. Unfortunately, he was not able to secure a permanent home in Miami, but the Rams then immediately scooped him up to help fill in a gap that they had on their defensive line. The Rams are very excited to have added the 27-year-old defensive lineman. How will he fare with the team this season?

 Immediate Impact

Gallimore will not have to work out with the Rams. As a vested veteran, Neville Gallimore can avoid the usual procedure on waivers and head directly onto the active roster. He immediately starts helping the Rams within their defensive line rotation, something that helps given the situation the team is working through after Aaron Donald.

The Rams had just placed Defensive Lineman Larrell Murchison on IR with a return designation, thus opening up space on their roster. The injury to Murchison ruled him out for a minimum of four games; hence, Gallimore’s addition comes at a perfect time. His role will be of the essence in fortifying the defensive front during this period.

 Neville Gallimore’s Journey

Neville Gallimore was a third-round pick the Cowboys initially selected. Throughout his career, he has been in flux from starting as a rookie to a rotational piece. Last season with the Cowboys saw him get snaps in a bit of everything, with his snap counts decreasing from 403 in 2022 down to 288 last year. He brings invaluable experience coming off this roller coaster.

Pro Football Focus rated Neville Gallimore as an average defensive lineman in 2023 and placed him 69th at defensive tackle. Although his stats indicate less playing time, Gallimore was a dependable backup for the Cowboys, and the Rams will likely want to capitalize on his experience and skill set.

 Gallimore’s Signing Strengthens Rams’ Defense

The signing of Gallimore is just a tactical move on behalf of the Rams. He brings an array of skillsets from his work as a rotational player in Dallas and lately with the Dolphins that the Rams can employ. It will help them make their defensive lineup more solid at least for the first couple of weeks of this season.

The decision to bring Gallimore on board should be a reflection of the commitment that the Rams have toward building a strong defensive front. Primed to see lots of action this year, filling in gaps, and with the ability to provide good veteran leadership, his development as a Ram will be viewed under a microscope by fans and analysts. With his new contract, Neville Gallimore’s career and the Rams’ defensive scheme have reached a turning point.
