Nevada Wolf Pack Alum Jarod Lucas Signs With Dallas Mavericks

Jarod Lucas has signed with the Dallas Mavericks.

Nevada Wolf Pack men’s basketball alum Jarod Lucas signed with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday afternoon. Lucas, 24, went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft as a guard. He was born on December 7, 1999. Lucas played three seasons of college men’s basketball at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, before transferring to the University of Nevada, Reno, for the remaining two seasons of his college career. Lucas averaged 17.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in the Wolf Pack’s 2023-24 NCAA season. Here’s what you need to know about Lucas’ signing.

Jarod Lucas’ New Contract

Jarod Lucas signed a new contract with the Dallas Mavericks, who announced Lucas’ signing on Friday afternoon. Neither the Mavericks nor Lucas’ agency, RIZE Management, released details surrounding the new contract. RIZE Management solely shared the news on their Instagram account without specific contract details.

Aside from Lucas, Little Rock Trojans Guard Jamir Chaplin also signed with the Mavericks. Chaplin’s signing was also under the radar with few details released to the general public. Both Chaplin and Lucas will be eligible for bonuses up to $77,500 if they spend at least 60 days with the Mavericks’ NBA G League affiliate, the Texas Legends.

As of Friday, Dallas has 20 players under contract, just one shy of the offseason limit. The Mavericks will need to reduce the total number to 18 players ahead of the regular season. We’ll see if Lucas and Chaplin make the Texas Legends’ roster and start the season in the NBA G League.

Lowdown On Jarod Lucas

Jarod Lucas isn’t a household name in the world of NBA rookies. However, Lucas is a name to keep an eye on. He’s a 6-foot-4, 195-pound shooting guard who last played for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA 2K25 Summer League. He averaged 7.5 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 13.3 minutes per game. He also shot 42.1% from the field, 35.7% from the three-point line, and 90% from the free-throw line.

Lucas reportedly wasn’t a member of the Mavericks’ training camp roster, but could still become a member of the Texas Legends soon. He previously played for the Nevada Wolf Park, with whom he averaged a career-best 17.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He also shot 42.1% from the field and made 80 three-pointers at a 39.4% clip, which was a personal best.

More About Lucas

Jarod Lucas isn’t the only Nevada Wolf Pack men’s basketball alum expected to break training camp on NBA teams’ rosters. Philadelphia 76ers Small Forward Caleb Martin and Charlotte Hornets Small Forward Cody Martin are also expected to break training camp. Caleb and Cody, who are both 29, are twin brothers who played college basketball at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, and at Nevada in Reno, Nevada.

Caleb and Cody Martin are two players to keep an eye on. The Martin twin brothers have similar amounts of talent on the court. Both of their defensive skill sets can be described as above average. Caleb is known for making long-range shots, while Cody is a good passer who can draw charges.
