NBA Players Comment On Russell Westbrook’s Instagram Post

Russell Westbrook celebrated another trip around the sun on Tuesday.

Several NBA players have commented on Russell Westbrook’s Instagram post. Russell Westbrook is currently a Point Guard for the Denver Nuggets. Westbrook, 36, signed a two-year, $6.8 million contract with the Nuggets on July 26, 2024, after agreeing to a buyout with the Utah Jazz. The Jazz waived Westbrook on July 20, 2024. Westbrook was best known for his 11-year tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder, with whom he had three triple-double seasons.

Westbrook’s Instagram post also attracted celebrities. Despite not winning an NBA championship, Westbrook is a legendary player with nine NBA All-Star appearances, two NBA All-Star Game MVPs, two All-NBA First Teams, five All-NBA Second Teams, two All-NBA Third Teams, and one NBA All-Rookie First Team. The former fourth overall pick received plenty of love from the public. Read on for the NBA players’ comments and much more.

NBA Players’ Comments

Several current and former NBA players commented on Russell Westbrook’s Instagram post. Westbrook made an Instagram post to thank his followers for all the love on Tuesday. He turned 36 years old on November 12, 2024. He was born in Long Beach, California, on November 12, 1988, attended Lawndale High School in Lawndale, California, and attended UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif. Westbrook’s high school and college basketball careers were both close to his hometown and went off to a rough start due to his then-height of five-foot-eight and then-weight of 140 pounds. He grew to become six-foot-four and 200 pounds.

The comments poured in for Westbrook on his special day. Maccabi Tel Aviv Center and Power Forward Wenyen Gabriel wrote, “Happy Bday living legend!” Former Shooting Guard Jamal Crawford wrote, “Real one!” Free agent Shooting Guard and Small Forward Theo Pinson, who last played for the G League’s Texas Legends, wrote, “Happy birthday my guy!!” Milwaukee Bucks Guard Delon Wright wrote, “Happy Birthday brotha !!!” Golden State Warriors Forward Kyle Anderson wrote, “the realest happy birthday old head!”

The comments continued to pour in for Russell Westbrook on his big day. Singer-songwriter Ty Dolla $ign wrote, “Happy birthday gang.” Rapper and actor 2 Chainz wrote “Brodie! Happy bday.” Former NFL Wide Receiver Victor Cruz wrote, “Happy born day my brother.” Rapper Blxst wrote, “Happy Birthday brudda!” Rapper Saweetie wrote, “Hbd broskee!”

Russell Westbrook’s 36th Birthday

Russell Westbrook and his wife, Nina Earl — a marriage and family therapist, entrepreneur, and podcast host —  celebrated his 36th birthday on Tuesday. Earl, 35, posted a heartfelt birthday video for Westbrook, who’s in the middle of his first season playing for the Denver Nuggets. He is averaging 11.1 points. 4.1 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game while shooting 35.4% from the field goal line thus far. The couple met at UCLA, married at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, in August 2015, and welcomed three children (son Noah in 2017 and twin daughters Skye and Jordan in 2018).

Westbrook’s Hopes

Russell Westbrook has built a lasting legacy as one of the most prominent Point Guards in the NBA. Westbrook’s still writing more chapters for his future Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame career. Westbrook reportedly hopes to win an NBA championship with the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat in five games for their first NBA championship in 2023.

The 2024-25 NBA season is in its early stages, so the Nuggets’ recent injuries shouldn’t affect the team too much. The Nuggets reportedly believe they’re still in their “championship window.” If the Nuggets’ young players step up and Jokic stays healthy, the Nuggets can try to make the playoffs, win the Western Conference, and advance to the NBA Finals.

It’s unclear if the team would win the Finals, as the team’s loss of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, durability of Jamal Murray, and lack of three-point shooting are a cause for concern. It doesn’t help that the West got deeper and deadlier, like the Oklahoma City Thunder, whose core players, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams, remain on rookie contracts. The Thunder are not bothered by the salary cap, which can be an issue for the Nuggets organization.
