Edging into the fifth race of the season, Xfinity drivers are ready to take on the LiUNA on Sunday. Last weekend in Phoenix, it was a Justin Allgaier show. Allgaier led for 130 of 208 laps until a slow overtime restart allowed Alex Bowman to gain on him. The move wasn’t a surprise considering Bowman started from the pole position. During Saturday qualifying, the Team Hendrick driver was the fastest at 131.984, putting in a starting position. Bowman was followed by No.00 Sheldon Creed (P2), No.8 Sammy Smith (P3), No.88 Connor Zilisch (P4) and No. 2 Jesse Love (P5).
For a moment it seemed that Justin Allgaier would pick up steam after a late-race restart. However, he was too slow to re-enter the field. The mishap gave Alex Bowman and Brandon a clear path to the top. Unfortunately, this would be no match for Aric Almirola who pushed past Bowman to take the checkered flag in a photo finish. Is this a precursor for what’s to come on Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway? Almirola’s win shakes things up, but Justin Allgaier has remained in the top five since Atlanta. Will he take the trophy at the LiUNA on Saturday?
