This was a sublime exhibition of patience and skills.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided a good complement to the innings as he combined to conjure a seventh-wicket partnership of 196. This not only surpassed their previous record of 555-6 against them in Khulna, which they had made back in 2015 but also set a new benchmark against Pakistan. The previous best for a seventh-wicket partnership against Pakistan was 186 runs, played between Warren Lees and Richard Hadlee for New Zealand in 1976. Rahim and Miraz are now in the record books.
Bangladesh’s Sturdy Total
Bangladesh’s innings were finally wrapped up at 565, giving them a lead of 117 runs over Pakistan. It’s such a big lead, and it puts pressure on Pakistan. A position like this is pretty good for Bangladesh because they can dictate the terms of the game and try to finish it with a strong result.
The response has not been all that comfortable. Opener Saim Ayub, who had scored a half-century in the first innings, was dismissed for just one run. The young opener was caught behind off the bowling of Shoriful Islam in the third over. This leaves the job in the hands of others to deal with, as Ayub’s early dismissal has left Pakistan with a very difficult task ahead. Now it remains to be seen how the team regroups and finds out a way to counter Bangladesh’s advantage.
Bowling Stats and Highlights
Pakistan bowlers had their moments, but Bangladeshi progress couldn’t be halted. If Shaheen Shah Afridi was the pick of bowlers on display with 2 for 88, Naseem Shah had a more fruitful outing with 3 for 93. For all their good efforts, the Bangladesh batsmen proved too resilient.
Bangladesh has taken a big lead, so the game will surely become interesting from here. Now it’s time for Pakistan to respond vigorously in their second innings, reduce the gap, and see that some pressure goes back to Bangladesh. The next sessions are sure to thrill both teams fighting for supremacy.
