India’s greatest cricketer, MS Dhoni, opined to an extent that fear and pressure are a necessity for self-development and making good decisions. Speaking in a recent video for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Dhoni said that formerly, players with this kind of behavior were only going to be reckless in their decision-making.
Looking at the future, still to come, with fans and the team waiting for his decision about it, his thoughts about ‘fear’ and ‘pressure’ still serve not only fans or the team as motivation or advice but also as philosophy.
The Importance of Fear and Pressure
From the questions and answers with Tendulkar, Dhoni underlined the part about fear as something that develops bravery and courage. Brave are among the fears Dhoni associates with, and this leads him to say that one has to have them so that he can fear being fearful. He expounded that inordinate pressures and equivocal factors impel one towards making the right choices of action.
MSD was quite perceptive when he explained, ‘If you are fearless, then you will be reckless. Because if I don’t have fear, I won’t respect the normal things’, this statement further elaborates the importance of the feeling of fear in the development of the character.

MS Dhoni, who took CSK to triumph five times in the Indian Premier League (IPL), resigned from the captaincy before the beginning of the current season and set off the handing over of the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. In the last knockout stage of IPL 2024 under the captaincy of Gaikwad, CSK performed mediocrely and ended in fifth place.
Thanks to the eight consecutive years of CSK’s championship win and the speculation that 2019 could be Dhoni’s last year playing IPL, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that Dhoni will play in IPL 2025.
On MSD’s future, Viswanathan said, “It is a question that only MS Dhoni can answer. We have always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him. ” Viswanathan further said that MSD has always had a tendency to make announcements at the right time, and there could be hope and expectation of seeing MSD in the next year’s lineup.
MS Dhoni, who had knee surgery last year, has been quite effective this season, allowing 161 runs in 73 balls at a strike rate of 220.55 and excelling behind the stumps.

Upcoming IPL Auction and Retention Rules
A mega IPL auction is scheduled later in the year, and if MSD continues, CSK will likely retain him. However, clarity on the number of players allowed to be retained is still pending. Viswanathan mentioned that discussions with the BCCI regarding retention rules have yet to take place.
“We are expecting that the BCCI would discuss with all franchise owners before they take a decision on retention,” he said.
