Mohammed Kudus Gets Extra 2-Game Ban

Mohammed Kudus has been sidelined for the next few games.

West Ham United’s winger Mohammed Kudus will now miss five matches after his ban was extended. According to the FA on Wednesday, he was also fined £60,000 ($77,286) for violent conduct during last month’s Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur. Kudus is facing a three-match suspension due to a red card he received against the Spurs.

Kudus Banned For Two Extra Matches

Mohammed Kudus will miss two more games following his red card against Tottenham last month. He has been found guilty of violent conduct by an independent Regulatory Commission. The Ghanaian will now be sidelined for the league matches on November 25 and November 30. Kudus ignited a tense moment against Spurs players in the 82nd minute of West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham on Oct. 19 after he fouled Micky van de Ven. Kudus started by shoving Van de Ven in the face and then did the same to Pape Matar Sarr.

Referee Andy Madley changed Kudus’s first yellow card to a red after checking with VAR, pointing to violent conduct. This decision means Kudus will be suspended for three matches automatically. Kudus missed the Hammers’ 2-1 victory at home against Manchester United and their 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest and will also sit out the upcoming home match against Everton. The additional suspension means he will miss the match against Newcastle United and the home game versus Arsenal.

Kudus ‘ Deeply Embarrassed’ By His Actions

The independent regulatory commission explained that the 24-year-old Ghana international expressed regret to the panel and stated he was “deeply embarrassed” by what he did. It said:

“MK [Mohamed Kudus] began his letter by apologising, stating that he was deeply embarrassed by his behaviour in the 20 seconds following his foul on Micky van de Ven. “He accepted that he had lost his cool and said that his behaviour was out of character.

“He stated that he could not recall the events clearly, but having viewed the footage, he felt that MvdV [Micky van de Ven] had exaggerated the incident as there was minimal contact from him…He accepted that he should not have pushed PS [Pape Sarr] in the face and that his action merited a red card. However, he did not injure anyone, or use force.

“MK [Mohamed Kudus] stated that his preparation for the match had been mentally and physically challenging because he had travelled for a midweek international fixture and had received various negative comments on social media. He referred to his work within the community and in his home country of Ghana, stressing how he tried to be a role model.”

Conclusion

West Ham also faced a £30,000 fine for not making sure their players acted in a non-provocative and non-violent way. The Hammers have acknowledged the charge. The London club said in a statement: “Whilst the Club is disappointed with the outcome, it respects the process that has been undertaken.” Tottenham Hotspur faced a £20,000 fine for a similar incident in October.
