The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) lost the match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2024. This sparked debate about the authorization decisions of KL Rahul. Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif, the representative of analytical skills, studied the problems of Rahul’s captaincy after the LSG, loss.

Mohammad Kaif was totally against the decision of the LSG captain to bat first after winning the toss. He emphasized the fact that the team that batted first, missed the opportunity, which has proved to be an advantage for the teams in the Delhi matches played during IPL 2024. Mohammad Kaif remarked that the teams that did not use the statistics for strategic planning were the ones that did not succeed in the season.
While the teams that batted first had a better success rate in the season. Through the option to foul, LSG could have declared a target and thus controlled the speed of the game. Therefore, they started from the back, as if they were already in the lead.

Bowling Performance and Missed Opportunities

Mohammad Kaif was not sure the Lucknow bowling plan was good for taking down the Delhi Capitals’ batsmen and was therefore wondering if it was efficient. The LSG was without its in-form batsman, Jake Fraser-McGurk, who was sent back to second place in the innings, but the LSG’s bowlers were not able to use the momentum.
He stressed the weak points of the conduct and the strategy and again reminded us of the need for a more united and effective way of playing.

Moreover, Mohammad Kaif reminded us of the importance of the match for the Lucknow Super Giants in their fight for playoff qualification. He pointed out the importance of making the best use of the opportunities in crucial matches and the need for rational decisions to achieve the required outcomes.
Mohammad Kaif stressed the possible gains or losses that could result from the outcome of the match. He was disappointed that LSG neither managed to get the points from that match nor did they get the chance to step up to the top
