The Minnesota Vikings have had an eventful offseason so far. They have entered a new era now that long-time quarterback Kirk Cousins left for the Atlanta Falcons. Still, this team has plenty of talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball. The team added another weapon today, signing former Packers and Bears tight end Robert Tonyan to a deal.

The Minnesota Vikings have questions at quarterback, but there are few questions about the pass-catchers. Robert Tonyan will join Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, TJ Hockenson, and Aaron Jones on an offense that hopes to rebuild quickly in a tough NFC North. Last year was a down year for Tonyan as he only caught 11 passes for 112 yards. Part of this was due to the quality of the Bears offense.
His best year was in 2020, when he caught 52 passes for 586 yards and 11 touchdowns, and he was one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets. He hasn’t been able to recapture that magic but will be a solid TE2 for the Minnesota Vikings in 2024.
Can The Quarterback Play Support The Weapons?
As of this moment, the quarterback job for the Minnesota Vikings is a race between Sam Darnold and JJ McCarthy. Both of them come with massive questions. Darnold is a former top pick but has never lived up to expectations. However, many still believe there is untapped potential. Speaking of untapped potential, McCarthy is a player many believe is destined for great things. However, he needs some development.
The uncertainty of the quarterback position makes predicting 2024 very difficult for the Minnesota Vikings. Furthermore, the Lions are gunning for a Super Bowl, the Packers have a good young team, and the Bears might have finally found their franchise quarterback. Even with a decent season, they could finish fourth. The signing of Robert Tonyan makes one thing clear. The Vikings are surrounding their quarterback with plenty of weapons in order to succeed.
