Report: Milwaukee Bucks Interested In Bringing Back Thanasis Antetokounmpo

Milwaukee Bucks Thanasis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokoumpo has been a staple of the Milwaukee Bucks for the past decade. When a franchise has a player of this caliber, they often make accommodations. His brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, has been a part of the Bucks organization for the last five years. He has averaged less than ten minutes per game and only makes appearances when the game is well in hand. However, every team needs some locker room guys whose impact cannot be seen on the court. Milwaukee is reportedly looking to bring back Giannis’ brother despite his injury recovery.

Milwaukee Bucks Looking To Bring Back Thanasis Antetokounmpo

Sportrac’s Keith Smith reported that the Milwaukee Bucks are looking into whether Thanasis Antetokounmpo could be signed up for the team. He is recovering from an Achilles tear and will not be able to play this season. The team isn’t looking at him because of needs on the court. Many past reports have said the organization has brought in the younger Antetokounmpo in order to appease Giannis, and so far, it is working. The Athletic reported last year that Thanasis was essential in convincing the superstar to sign a massive three-year extension to stay in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

While some may see this as frivolous, the Milwaukee Bucks’ number one priority should be keeping Giannis happy. He acknowledged this past week that if things go south this year, the team could look to trade him. The team has gone all in to win with their superstar. However, they have given up a lot. They don’t have a first-round draft pick until 2031 and have a roster full of old and expensive players. If they do not live up to expectations, they may decide to begin their rebuild.

Other Rumors

Smith had more rumors surrounding the Milwaukee Bucks. While the team has limited roster flexibility, they could look to move MarJon Beauchamp in exchange for another defensive piece. The 24th overall pick in the 2022 draft has looked good in limited action. He shot 40% from three-point range, though he only attempted 75 shots from long range last year. Still, there is value there if the Bucks want to try and upgrade the roster to win now. If everyone stays healthy, this roster is as good as any. If Giannis, Damian Lillard, or any of the aging stars miss time, this roster is a little shaky.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo is just one of the many moves the Milwaukee Bucks might make. Last year ended in disappointment because of injuries. However, it puts that much more pressure on this season. Giannis is in his prime and the franchise would love to win another championship with their all-time great player.
