The Milwaukee Bucks are in an interesting position. They have one of the top duos in the league, but on the other hand, there aren’t many picking them to advance far in this year’s playoffs. They even had a coaching shift midway through the year that was supposed to solve their issues. However, outside of a brief good stretch, things have looked far from a championship-contesting team. It’s hard to see how or even if they will be able to turn things around.
But with the latest injury news, are any chances of a title all but gone at this point?
Injury Concern For The Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo is absolutely essential for any championship hopes with this team. But according to Shams Charania, an NBA Insider for the Athletic, the Superstar continues to deal with the calf injury. At the moment, he is expected to make a push to play in Game 1 against the Pacers.
However, there are growing concerns and doubts that he will be able to do so. Additionally, with the nature of an injury like this, exercising caution may end up being the best route.
If Unable To Play For The Milwaukee Bucks
As stated, this is an injury that could easily worsen if Antetokounmpo rushes back. We have seen players, including the Milwaukee Bucks, step up when their star is absent. This has been a year where teams can legitimately question if their highest-paid player is worth it or not. Undoubtedly, having one of the top players in the league helps you win and is crucial.
But this doesn’t mean that the Milwaukee Bucks fit is the best or that long-term success hinges solely on one player. It’s also important to note that if the ultimate goal is a championship, the current corps on a lot of teams needs to be seriously reevaluated.
Possible Destinations
Set aside the salary cap for a moment. In terms of pure basketball fit and fun places to watch one of the best players in the league, there are a number of intriguing options. For example, the Golden State Warriors need someone exactly like Antetokounmpo. Steph Curry is still unbelievable, and their frontcourt needs help.
Furthermore, you know both players would be willing to sacrifice seeing as much of the ball as they are used to, and they would do whatever it takes to ensure another win. There is precedent for this Warriors team doing something that may seem out of the realm of possibility. It’s not a present-day reality, but depending on how things go during this playoff run and how the Milwaukee Bucks feel, a team like the Warriors could have a totally different look next year.
